Some Problems, and questions ;)Posted: Thu Jan 10, 2008 8:42 pm    Post subject: Some Problems, and questions ;)

Hey,

today I installed the new Seo mod 0.4.0 with phpbb gold. As always great work, thank a lot for that Wink

Now I got some questions:

I applied these changes:

http://www.phpbb-seo.com/boards/advanced-seo-url/discussions-vt1618.html

now the topics work fine, but not the usernames, for example:

http://www.roqbar.de/community/memberlist.php
http://www.roqbar.de/community/benutzer/blumenm%25C3%25A4dchen

Right would be: http://www.roqbar.de/community/benutzer/blumenmädchen

---------

Also I thought about the best configuration possible with this mod. Should I use a virtual root or not? Can I get problems with this Mod later when I do so? www.lotus.ath.cx (people who would like to have a cms intigrated in phpbb will like this Wink)

After I activated the options everything worked, but loggin in didn't. I moved my board from the root, to the subfolder community, maybe I messed up something in the cookies, I don't know Sad

Is Cookie path: /community alright or does it have to be /community/ or just stay / ??
---------

Is it seo wise to activate virtual folders or not?

-------

Can I just have:

http://www.roqbar.de/community/"username"

instead of:

http://www.roqbar.de/community/benutzer/"username"

Thx a lot for your great support

Well, it is said in the install that profile urls without IDs really is meant for alphanumeric characters, eg a to z and 0 to 9, _, - and dot, but, no accent, no spaces.

Browser won't deal the same way with other chars, so there is no 100% satisfying solution.

Your login issue most likely comes from phpBB config, could be the cookie path, cookie domain, and even the phpBB domain.

You should use "www.roqbar.de" as phpBB domain, ".roqbar.de" (with the dot) for the cookie domain, and "/" for cookie and phpBB path. You may as well need to force server vars while setting phpBB domain.

Mods adding pages will need some modding to output the rewritten urls, but the site you mentioned currently is unreachable from where I stand.

Virtual root option can only be used if phpBB is installed in a sub dir, then, it can be useful to shorten your urls a bit, especially with the virtual folder option used : phpBB/forum-url/topic-title-txx.html vs forum-url/topic-title-txx.html

Virtual folder option can help out to better categorize topics, it's a great addition in mixed mode, since it allows the use of keywords in url without topic title injection, in advanced mode, it can help as well, but will increase the url length.
It's use will make the choice of the keywords to use in forums urls even more important.

About your last question, yes, you could, but only if you do not use "/" as forum url suffix, since otherwise there would be confusion between forum-url/ and username/ in the .htaccess.
Generally talking, I don't think it's this important to keep profile url at the root level.
