Problem with indexing after move of forumPosted: Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:14 pm    Post subject: Problem with indexing after move of forum

Hi,

About one month ago I moved my forum and upgraded to phpBB3 with Advanced SEO url, topics and meta-tags. I had the same at my previous forum so I didn't see that as a problem.

I did 301 redirects from my previous forum: -http://subdomain.domain.com to -http://www.newdomain.com/forum/

Every URL worked great as redirects but now it all started, Google does not index my nice URLs like this : -http://www.newdomain.com/forum/about-jobs-t33.html.

Still all the indexed URLs are like this:
or
-http://www.newdomain.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=102
and a few are also:

And also just a few of my URLs are indexed. My last forum had about 10 times as much URLs indexed.

So, I thought it had something to do with duplicates so I installed zero duplicates and also inserted a Robots.txt. This just made Google index fewer URLs than before...

Does someone have an idea of what this could be?

I can give URL through PM..

Thanks
/ Daniel

Well, this is the type of matter to take care of before you start redirecting.

And the idea is to disallow vanilla urls only after they have been redirected to the new urls when you migrate from an unrewritten board to one using url rewriting.

So, you should now drop your robots.txt to let Google visit the vanilla urls and then just let the zero duplicate do its job.

It's a bit late, but if you drop your robots.txt and let the zero duplicate do it's job, it should be as quick as when you redirected the sub-domain to the main domain as far as indexing.

It would only have been faster to redirect directly to the correct urls at first.

Thanks for you reply!

I'm sorry for being indistinct, but my previuos board was also rewritten and all I did was to redirect old rewritten URLs to the new one.

Thanks again

Well, if you have url like -http://www.newdomain.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=102 in Google index, it must have found them somewhere.

Make sure you activate the zero duplicate and then, after couple month, put back the robots.txt on.

Everything should quickly go back to normal.
