301 redirect

hello,

i pugraded from phpbb2 to phpbb3

before, my categories URL were something like this:

/this-is-a-category-c10.html

but in phpbb3 the categories change to forums so that URL changed to:

/this-is-a-category-f10.html

now, i want to use a redirect 301 to keep the page listed in google... but when i insert the redirect 301 on that url, it's still the "forum does not exist" page that comes up.

is it not possible to use redirect 301 with phpbb seo?
what is the best way to save these category pages?
also, error document 404 does the same....

I think it's because the category id is not kept as you seem to suggest :

category-title-cxx.html will as you observed be translated to a forum url, but with a new ID category-title-fyy.html.

You can implement hard coded redirection for these in your .htaccess, but you must match the new forum id, that's all.
