|
|
I recently updated my forum from phpBB 3.0.0 to phpBB 3.0.1. On phpBB 3.0.0, I originally had the phpBB SEO Advanced - 0.4.0 and zero duplicate installed. After upgrading (changed files only) to phpBB 3.0.1, I attempted to upgrade to phpBB SEO Advanced - 0.4.2. I followed all the instructions (copied files, delete cache, update/upload htaccess, etc). I could not refresh my theme though as it gives me an error saying "This theme is stored on the filesystem so there is no need to refresh it.".
After doing all of this, the forum works fine, but my rewriting no longer works. All of my class settings and url settings are exactly the same (it saved them so I did not have to redo them).
URL used to be (and should still be):
/phpBB/announcements
URL currently is:
/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=26
Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks! |

| If you used the changed files only package, then you may have deleted some part of the mod, so you need to go through the 0.4.2 install to make sure you have all the code required, updating only may not have been enough (since some part where not changed and may have disappeared during the overwriting). |

| I'm not sure what you mean. I did changed files only when I did the phpBB upgrade, but when I then upgraded phpBB SEO, I used the download package that you have on the site and did an install following the instructions included in the download. Do you mean that I should have done a full phpBB installation instead of the upgrade? I'm still not sure what's gone wrong. |

Problem is, when you use the changed file package, did you properly merge the code or did you just overwrite the old phpBB files ? Because if you did, the new files from the phpBB package do not contain our code.
As well, which update package are you talking about ? The advanced mod rewrite only update can only be done manually. |

I used the phpBB changed files only package and overwrote the original files with the updated files. Then I downloaded the newest phpBB SEO package and went through the installation.
Are you saying that in the future I should do the full phpBB installation when there are updates rather than using their changed files only package?
Also, is there any way to get phpBB SEO working at this point? Do I need to redo a full installation of phpBB? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling phpBB SEO but it still won't work. |

So you did not really update the phpBB SEO mod, but rather re installed it.
You could have missed something, 0.4.2 works with 3.0.1, this is for sure : http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/
In your case, what I'd to to update phpBB would be :
1) use the automatic update package to grab the list of file to manually merge, and then stop the process.
2) manually merge the file form the list with the ones from the changed file only package.
3) then if some of the mods are updated two, update them following the update procedure.
4) upload everything and run the install/database_update.php script from the changed file only package.
Some mods could update files that phpBB doesn't, but besides, that's a good way to do it.
Of course, local testing is advised, to prevent from annoying typos and jeopardizing of your site. |
