.htaccess issuePosted: Sat Aug 02, 2008 12:25 am    Post subject: .htaccess issue

I need to store the .htaccess file in the phpBB3 root folder, which in this case is in a directory called forum. The mod generates the .htaccess file just fine, which looks like this:

Code:

    # Lines That should already be in your .htacess
    <Files "config.php">
    Order Allow,Deny
    Deny from All
    </Files>
    <Files "common.php">
    Order Allow,Deny
    Deny from All
    </Files>

    # You may need to un-comment the following line
    Options +FollowSymlinks
    # REMEBER YOU ONLY NEED TO STARD MOD REWRITE ONCE
    RewriteEngine On
    # REWRITE BASE
    RewriteBase /forum/
    # HERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO ADD THE WWW PREFIXE REDIRECTION

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteRule ^([a-z0-9_-]+)\.html$ viewforum.php?forum_uri=$1 [QSA,L,NC]
    # END PHPBB PAGES
    #####################################################

As you might expect though, it is not working. Here is an example of the URL for a forum with the mod turned off that works fine:

http://www.academytalk.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4

But when turned on, I get the usual error:

Quote:
File Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.

Any ideas? Thanks as always for the terrific help!

Assuming the mod rewrite is activated in your server, you may need to play with slashes a bit, try the right slash option at first in the .htaccess generator Wink

.htaccess issuePosted: Sun Aug 03, 2008 12:32 am    Post subject: Re: .htaccess issue

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work but since I changed the .htaccess file a bit things are behaving differently.

Here is the current .htaccess file stored in the /forum directory where the forum is:

Code:
# Lines That should already be in your .htacess
<Files "config.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>
<Files "common.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>

# You may need to un-comment the following line
# Options +FollowSymlinks
# REMEBER YOU ONLY NEED TO STARD MOD REWRITE ONCE
RewriteEngine On
# REWRITE BASE
RewriteBase /forum/
# HERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO ADD THE WWW PREFIXE REDIRECTION

When I click on the link for the first forum, it resolves to:

-http://www.academytalk.com/phpBB3/universities-in-angola-f5.html

If it resolves to http://www.academytalk.com/forum/universities-in-angola-f5.html it works fine.

But nowhere in my .htaccess file (as you can see) is there anyplace where phpBB3 is hardcoded.

Sounds like this should be easy to fix now, I am missing something subtle. mod_Rewrite is definitely enabled.

.htaccess issuePosted: Sun Aug 03, 2008 12:59 am    Post subject: Re: .htaccess issue

Never mind, figured it out. The script_path configuration variable was reset by something (not me) from /forum to /phpBB3. Reset it in phpMyAdmin, purged the cache, and the .htaccess file seems to be working correctly now!

Thanks!
