Link to first unread post in a topic does not work correctly

Hello,

one of my moderators use IE6 and complains that the links to the latest unread post in a topic do not work for him. E.g.:

example.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2891&view=unread#unread

When he clicks on these links on the viewforum pages, he always gets to the top of the topic and not to the first post that is new for him.

Does this problem have something to do with Advanced SEO URL MOD or one of your other MODs I installed (e.g. No Duplicate and Zero Duplicate) or is it a bug in Olympus?

In Firefox 3 this problem does also occur but very rarely.

EDIT: Sorry, I have to correct myself: The bug does not always occur with IE6 but very often. And my moderator does not see a regularity when it happens and when not.

Using IE6 nowdays is some sport in all cases.

In this particular case, it could be because of the way the unread link is rewritten in topic view, since in some case it is not and in some other it is (when there is only one page on the topic for example).

I'm not 100% positive about this, but is could be. If so, a refresh on the "broken" link should not change anything.

Could you here paste the code of the links mentioning "unread" in a topic where it's not working ?

thank you for thinking about the problem!

We do not have to talk about IE6 - I'm using Ubuntu. Wink

But unfortunately IE6 is still widely spread. AND sometimes I have the same problem with FF3, too - like a few minutes ago!

What did I do?

First I clicked on the "View new posts" link. Then I went to the forum which had a new post. There I clicked on the "View first unread post" icon.

This icon was linked to:

example.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1532&view=unread#unread

Viewing the topic, the URL changed to:

example.com/my-topic-title-t1532.html#unread

The topic has 11 posts, all of them on page 1 of the topic. Up to now the topic has only one page because I decided to have 16 posts per page.

Post numer 11 would have been the unread one, but I landed on the top of the topic. And when I viewed the source code of the page, there was no id="unread" (or something like that) in it. I hope that helps a bit.

And I can confirm this now: When we get to the top of the page instead of the first unread post, there is no <a id="unread"></a> inside the source code of the generated page.

And on the viewtopic pages, the small icon which indicates that a post is unread, is also wrong, when the mentioned problem occurs: All these icons are icon_post_target.gif then instead of icon_post_target_unread.gif what some of the icons should be when there are unread posts in a topic.
