Is it Possible to run rewrite rules in Forum root?

I know that it may not be possible to install any of the SEO mods with the .htcaccess in the forum root folder... or is it? The 'Webmistress' of a Forum I'm working on, has given me phpbb root access only via FTP. I Suppose I could ask her to paste and copy what I need in the domains root .htcaccess but then... what if I need to make changes ect and we know sometimes things do not always work right the first time.

Any thoughts on this?

Well it is of course possible, but you most likely have trouble using the www prefix redirection, not big ones, but you'll certainly will have to repeat it in each .htaccess.

Running a single .htaccess from root is not really a perf issue the way I designed the phpBB SEO rewriterules (testing path in the RegEx is light fast) unless you really are mod rewriting a bunch of urls, over hundred cases I'd say.

So to do it, you just need to use the rewriterule without the path in them, and to set :

Yeah I know that the www redirect will probably be missing in other non phpbb pages. Maybe later I will give her the directions to paste and copy the www redirect on her root .htaccess file. The content in the root domain is mostly the work of wordpress and nothing phpbb... so.
