should I install cyber aliens MOD for guest sessions?
I have heard that Google can index a regular phpbb installation just fine without.
a previous forum has only 1 page indexed in Google after 10 months!

this has cookies de-activated and now I am worried that the same fate awaits my new forum
thanks in adv...

And welcome
There are several level of enhancement one can make, the first one being getting rid of SIDs.
This step will allow bot to spider your pages, even though some will still crawl URLs with SIDs, it's longer and those never get PageRanks as there are no back-links to those with the same SID in the bots next visits.
Then, php url are spiderable quite well with one or two parameters, but they do get less ranked and do not transmit PageRank as mod rewritten URLs. Here a post with results about this fact.
But you could just install mx Google sitemaps and mx Sitemaps to help out bots a bit to find your topic without implementing a mod rewrite, you'd get spidered but probably less Ranked in the end, at least for the deeper content such as topics.
Please read this post about the phpBB SEO mod Rewrite and do not hesitate to test locally, they're very easy to install you'll see.

hehe.. thanks for the reply.
I do find intro threads a bit spammy so I thought I would cut to the chase
You will have your work cut out when the forum gets real busy.
Great to actually talk to a human being, I hope you have some time put aside for us noobs.
[Still can't figure why my old site hasn't got more than 1 page indexed]

I am not sure to have understood all well here, sorry, are the thread here spammy according to you ? and what could cut out my work ? I think I miss some basic English culture here.
And to answer you, all solutions here are noob-proof
For the reasons, well, backlinks maybe, Google still does not consider you have some.
It's better for other search engines though.
Then, what is for sure is the Google sitemap system works well to help Google figuring where to find content and more important, where to find the freshest content.
And I am not a bot and yes this site is young and will get better organized with time

LOL, It seems we are getting lost in translation
Your forum is great, it has lots of potential... I will certainly be back to ask more questions. I am glad I have found someone who knows a lot about phpBB and SEO.
