Banner ads and page load time

I have put banner ads thats use Javascript in the header of my phpbb forum. Now sometimes if the server of the company from where ads are being fetched is slow or down my page stops loading and keeps waiting for the ad to load.

Is there any way I can make my local page load without it waiting for the data to come from the ad server.

Not that I know of, and I don't think there is much to do, because even if you'd past the JS code at the very bottom of your page, the page would not load fully until the JS script connecting to the adds server answered.

But users would view the page while waiting, which is not the case when the JS is at the top of the page and loads before the page's content.

This is actually on of the major issue with such JS add or stats code, the service must be fast as light and well routed not to slow down your page load, because the add service server is called upon each page load, and we have to wait until it responds.

Google AdSense are usually very fast, others systems too, but some are just too slow to really be usable.
