I'm not sure if this is exactly a good thing or not. I noticed today that several sites of mine had apparantly come entirely out of the supplemental index... then I did some searching on the web to see what was up.
I found this:
http://searchengineland.com/070731-215828.php
I hope the link is allowed... I think this is important enough of a topic to link some news to.
I have mixed feelings about this. The supplemental index apparantly still exists, but now we just won't have an easy way to tell which pages are in this index and which pages are not. I think perhaps things just got more difficult now.
One glimmer of hope... One of my pages that I know for a fact was in supplemental 2 days ago now shows up in search. I'm sure there are many articles being written as I type concerning this issue today. |

Interesting.
Looks like Google reached a new computer resources scale. They started the supplemental to be able to serve result in a decent time (which for them is really fast), and finally got enough server to handle it faster.
Google already had the more computer resources in the world, looks like they confirm
Matt Cutts seems to tell that there is a lot fewer, if not almost any, differences between the two indexes now.
So at least pages previously listed in the supplemental are going to see their cache updated more frequently, which is a good thing, but it does not necessarily means that the SERPs will be a lot better for these.
At least, the one updated frequently will have greater chances, since before it could last for ages in the supplemental to update the cache.

Yes, that is the only advantage probably... It's harder on folks not knowing they are in there in the first place though.
Not only that... it's impossible to measure the supplemental ratio now as well.
