Well, it's not much optimimizing to do so.
Because you don't want your site to be considered by Google and other search engines as using "doorways" or shadow domains. The Google note about Search Engine Optimizers is very clear about it : http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35291

So the only secure way is to HTTP 301 redirect all of those domains to your actual one, unless you really plan to be a real challenger of your self and such several independent site on the same subject, which again should not be linked to much between themselves.
This is what you'd have to do if you'd change domain name for example, in order to keep your ranking and such while migrating.

In the end, the main interest of buying related domains is to prevent challengers from trying to compete on the same keywords as yours, not really something you can use to SEO an existing web-site usign another domain.
