Ranking in google

Page rank of my website's home page is 4. But my forum index page and other forum pages are not ranked. Google has already indexed these pages around 1200. I submitted the google sitemap around a month back , but the forum is 3 months old.
How exactly does this ranking system work and how much time does it take.

Well if you're talking about http://www.newindianmodels.com it's rather normal, because you do not link to your forum from your home page it seems, but only to -http://www.newindianmodels.com/forum/login.php, some profile links and post links, but never to your forum index, where you want the PageRank transmitted.

So first step would be to clearly link to your forum index from your home page, and better if from all the domain page as well. You can use several size and type of links(image, text links etc ... but no JS), it's even better.

So far Google only know of 53 page from your forum and 1560 for all your domain, so I guess that if you'd add 1560 link to your forum index it would help out a bit Wink

I guess you missed to see the links on the right side. These links are there on 99% pages of the website and in these links I have given a link to http://www.newindianmodels.com/forum including from the home page.

I wonder why only 53 pages are indexed from forum. I hope there is no problem in your Google Sitemap or advanced seo MOD. I see googlebot coming to my site regularly, still there only few pages indexed Sad

Oh My God !!!!
That rings my emergency alarms.

So can that be the reason for poor ranking etc. etc
How do I rectify the trailing slash redirect problem ?

First thins to do is stop posting links without it, only use on type of link, -http://www.newindianmodels.com/forum/ being the best one IMHO.

Then, I am not this sure about how to force an http 301 in such cases.

When you ask for -http://www.newindianmodels.com/forum, the server is first trying to find a file named "forum", and fells on the folder as there isn't any.

In the Apache rewriting guide, this is suggested and could be a solution :

This and the duplicate linking yes.

As well, your forum is young, but could have already been ranked I think. Anyway, you'll see the results of all this in the next Google PageRank Update.

Is there any specyfic time period after which google updates page rank or is it site dependent.

Well, the updates occur more or less for every web-site in the same period.
The update phenomenon is called Google dance, because once it was linked to a massive crawl by the Google bot.

Things have changed a bit, indexing and crawling is performed on a daily basis, but there are still steps in PageRank and backlinks Updates with Google.

And these steps still occurs for all web sites during the same update, but things seems to be moving.
We ad one for sure in July, but as you can read, it was not as easy to understand.

Until now, Google dance occurred more or less every 3 or 4 month, but can be two as well. Hard to tell.
