Hide links to rss feed / sitemap?Posted: Sat Jul 19, 2008 4:50 pm    Post subject: Hide links to rss feed / sitemap?

Is there a way to hide the links to the sitemap and rss feeds? I don't want those showing up on every page. I'm guessing it's in a template file somewhere. I also think that the RSS feed link shows up even if you deactivate the RSS feed option. I'm not sure people would use those on my site.

On a separate issue - is there a way that it won't output an annoucement sitemap as I don't have any annoucements?

Otherwise - looks very good so far. You may want to include a little clearer instructions that if you activate seo URL's in the sitemaps that you need to again update the htaccess.

True, the links should not be outputted when not used, and the announce sitemap should as well not be displayed unless there are some.

These are the kind of things that makes this mod a beta. So right now, if you do not want to use the rss part, you can un install all the rss modules in GYM 's acp.

Then, for the auto linking, you can delete the bit of code added in overall_header.html and only keep the sitemap link in the overall_footer.html, look at the mod's install file, these two code changes are very small.

The doc as well will be enhanced with time ...

Besides, what do you think about the mod ?

Already went up to 10791 urls within a single sitemap Wink

Thanks for the quick reply. I really like the mod. Also - is the list of links supposed to have the thread title or the URL to the thread? See my sitemap at:

http://www.med-psych.com/general-discussions-f2.xml

I think the intention was for the sitemap to show the thread topic, not the URL, correct?

Well that's how google sitemaps are, a simple list of urls. All the styled output, beside few static additions is built from the xml source, all we have to display topics is :

Code:
   <url>
      <loc>http://www.med-psych.com/moving-forum-threads-new-domain-t13.html</loc>
      <lastmod>2008-07-01T04:35:17+00:00</lastmod>
      <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
      <priority>0.95</priority>
   </url>

I had been looking at your sitemaps for this site and thought maybe it was supposed to show the thread title instead of the URL. Google has accepted my xml sitemaps so I'm good to go now. Even if I remove the link now to the RSS feeds, the page still can be called up and generates errors.

Also, since I upgraded to 3.0.2 my link to SEO options in the admin panel now has the text showing as:

ACP_CAT_PHPBB_SEO
ACP_MOD_REWRITE
ACP_PHPBB_SEO_CLASS
ACP_FORUM_URL
ACP_HTACCESS
ACP_GYM_SITEMAPS
ACP_GYM_MAIN
ACP_GYM_GOOGLE_MAIN
ACP_GYM_RSS_MAIN

Not sure if that is an error from my install or the upgrade script.

Now that this mod is done and working (sitemaps) - the only thing I have left to figure out for my site is how to do a related threads mod Smile

These language keys should be translated, if you see them like this, it means that you do not have the required code both for the mod rewrite and the GYM module in you language/en/acp/common.php.

I'll take a closer look to gymrss.php calls when rss is deactivated.
