|

I have installed the GYM Sitemap and also the PHPBB Mod Rewrite. GYM is working fine. I am able to see the sitemap.php page and ACP sitemap pages.
However, I am not sure how to get the sitemap.xml file and sitemap.txt
What should I be doing to get the GYM create sitemap.xml file?
and once again many thanks for assisting me in PHPBB Mod Rewrite |

Topic moved to the phpBB3 GYM sitemaps forum
Once you've installed GYM, you'll need to implement it's rewriterules. If sitemap.php (it's the same for gymrss.php) is installed at the same level or under (in a sub dir) the .htaccess you can just run the .htaccess generator and it will add the proper rewriterules.
Otherwise you'll have to proceed manually as explained in the GYM install file.
Once done, you can activate url rewriteing for the gym sitemaps module and get sitemaps.xml (and rss/rss.xml) url for it.
Note that GYM will use sitemap.php to generate all sitemaps, it's only an URL rewriting trick to make it .xml. Though, the sitemaps and feed can (and should) be cached in a way that the performances are really comparable to flat file access.
Have you taken a look at our GYM challenge ?

dcz, I installed GYM, and placed the rewriterules manually as mentioned in the GYM install file [this is because when i generated .htaccess in phpbb3 mod rewrite it did not add the GYM codes inside].
Now my forum is in forum.example.com. This is where sitemap.php resides and it works fine.
Now I get into ACP and I activate it ( I am not sure where and how i activate) i just tried all possible things and submitted. I also clicked on the "install" option in top. But I still do not find any sitemap generated. Where should I search for the sitemap.xml file? Its not there inside forum.example.com. Can you please help. |

There is no physical sitemapindex.xml file, but it's pretty much as if it was the case from outside.
Example on the demo server : http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/sitemapindex.xml
This is the sitemapindex, listing all available sitemaps, the only url to submit (would be phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/sitemap.php without url rewriting, but would work the same for google).
There is no sitemapindex.xml physical file, but as you can see, the page still exist, this is the url rewriting magic. |
