Hi all,
Have installed the latest GYM this evening and installation looked great and the config in the ACP went well too.
However I have to probs:
Firstly if I go to:
-http://www.performancerenaults.com/forum/rss.php or
-http://www.performancerenaults.com/forum/urllist.php
I get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function phpbb_ltrim() in /home/laguna/public_html/forum/mx_ggsitemaps/includes/ggs_functions.php on line 1147
Secondly if I go to:
-http://www.performancerenaults.com/forum/rss.xml or
-http://www.performancerenaults.com/forum/urllist.txt, I get the same error message above but if I go to:
-http://www.performancerenaults.com/forum/sitemaps.xml I get the following:
| Code: | | (none) xxx.xxx.xx.xx /sitemap.xml www.performancerenaults.com Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) 404 |
Any idea on what the problems are?
How can I submit a sitemap.xml file when the file doesnt exist?
Thanks for all help in advance. |

Even after recoding the three php files and putting them in my forum folder instead and then modifying my .htaccess file to match, I still get the error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function phpbb_ltrim() in /home/laguna/public_html/forum/mx_ggsitemaps/includes/ggs_functions.php on line 1147
Just thought you should know that I have tried both methods. |

Ok after googling, I found that ltrim was installed incorrectly.
So I took the ltrim from and original functions.php and shoved it in mine and all is finally ok
However, I did both tests - putting the files in my domain root (which I ideally want) and in my forum folder.
When the files were in the root, the urllist.txt file worked fine but the rss.xml and sitemap.xml files did not - complaining it couldnt display XML files. Any idea why?
When moved into the "forum" folder and the .htaccess modded accordingly, all 3 work fine.
Now one other issue I had is that after adding the mxSitemap mod I have a file called sitemaps.php in my forum folder and after putting the sitemap.php in the same folder, typing it into the address bar transforms sitemap.php to sitemaps.xml - is this correct?
I have modded the .htaccess file to make it sitemap.xml for now if this is ok.
I understand how I can use the rss.xml file but how do I submit the urllist.txt file to Yahoo? I have been to my Yahoo site explorer and can see no where of where to use it!
And am I right in saying, I now just submit http://www.performancerenaults.com/forum/sitemaps.xml to my Google Webmaster Tools?
Many thanks for everything so far. |

I think that you forgot to move the gs_style/ folder to root while moving rss.php and sitemap.php to your domain's root.
I strongly encourage you to update your phpBB installation, it would be a pity to see a script kiddie using one of the old security holes on your site.
mx sitemaps uses sitemaps.php and sitemaps.html while GYM sitemaps uses sitemap.php and sitemaps.xml, there is no confusion in the .htaccess with these two.
So yes your sitemap is working like a charm, maybe you just want to give one more try in the root folder before you submit you sitemap index with the final url.
That's all you will have to do, cache will auto update, new content will show up by itself and Google will be happy
The yahoo urllist standard is pretty much deprecated since yahoo accepts sitemaps, you can submit them in your site explorer account (where I guess it's still possible to submit urllist.txt), or automatically as explained in the www.sitemap.org website. |

Thanks for the reply.
I made sure the I copied the gs_style/ folder to the root folder - so I have no idea why it didnt like to show them!
Tried again with no luck! So have given up and left them back in the forum folder.
So I have now submitted the sitemap.xml and urllist.txt to Google and Yahoo respectively.
I have also removed my robots.txt file and as per the question I asked in my ARM topic, the robots.txt file you mention - the "suggested one" - where do i find this to see if it is different to the one I have currently in place? And when should I put it back?
Also, in the last 48/72 hours I seem to have disappeared from Google when typing: "Performance Renaults" in it - was #1 and now I'm no where - could this change and mod have caused this? Do I need to wait for it to be re-spidered?
Many thanks again |

About SERPs, their could be many reasons, but I'd wait a week before I'd start getting nervous.
In your case, since it seems that you did not install the zero duplicate as soon as you installed the mod rewrite, it's possible that SEs will be a bit confused for a bit of time, but, it was not long, and everything should go back to normal (and better hopefully) soon.
Without redirection, bots see many new links, but they are all duplicate (since they follow the old url list they have), so, they tend to slow down the crawl, with proper redirections, it's the opposite, they will massively crawl you forum for like a day or two (since following the old and new links goes to the same url), and then slowly go back to normal rate.
When you wait before you redirect, the slow down inertia stays a bit before SEs start to massively crawl your new urls.
With 70 page indexed right now, redirecting should really not be problematic.
By the way, from where I stand, your site is currently unreachable.

Thanks for the reply again.
We have just moved server so thats why the site was down.
I have just resubmitted the new sitemaps.xml to google webmaster tools and to yahoo and yes we do appear to have indexed pages here:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.performancerenaults.com
but we do not come up in any searches at all regarding our club:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=performance+renaults+club&btnG=Search
just links to us instead
So no idea what is going on.
Do you have a link to the suggested robots.txt file i should use and how long should I wait before putting it on the site?
Is there anything else I now need to do too to finish of all the SEO work and updates?
Many thanks for everyones help. |

I think it would be easier to provide good support if you try to stay a bit more focused.
This topic was about GYM sitemaps at first, then, you skipped to mx sitemaps and now you introduced two new topics : SERPs and robots.txt.
I answered about the robots.txt in another thread where you where asking, so you understand that we are losing time if we do not stay decently focused on each thread's topic.
By the way, you now have 111 pages listed in Google, with most of them using the new urls, so it looks like things are going well.
So please, start new threads for new topics

Sorry my bad!
Will try and stay more focused in future.
Good news on the indexing but no listings in the search engines however anymore |
