Well, the reason why I implemented this many performance settings is to allow virtually any server to run it.

The best settings are the one working the faster with the biggest url lists for sitemaps on your server.

Default settings should be ok with all servers, then, depending on the resources available, you can try listing more urls in the sitemaps.

The principle is we perform several sql query to grab data, if you set sql cycle to 100, you'll need 10 sql to output 1000 links.
So basically, you do not want more than 30 or 40 sql, and not more than 10 sec for page loading.
The best being to stay under 5 or 6 sec for caching.
You can activate the stats in acp, you'll get the generation stats in the outputted source code.

On a dedicated server you can go over 500 item per query (I tested up to a 1000), but it won't be necessarily the case on shared hosting.

Now, as the sitemaps are listing topics from a single forum, only listing the last 1000 active topics from each forums is already quite big.

You do not really need to list more urls than your biggest forum has.

Then, for rss feeds, it's a bit different, we're still able to cycle queries, but we really do not need to list as many links as with the sitemaps.

Generally, rss feeds do not list over few hundreds items, we can easily go up to few thousands with this mod, but I doubt more than few hundred will ever be necessary.
