I have registered a domain name of my own,how can I make good use of my domain name?I wish other people can give me some suggestion.in order to do business with india,I also want to register a .in domain name,where can I it with reasonable price?

any suggestions will be appreciate.

All angella told you is correct.

But, what's more important IMHO is the website project itself, usually, the domain name is to be chosen to best fit a given project.

You can either try to register a domain with your best keyword in it, as long as it remains humanly usable, or, if all the interesting keywords are already registered by other, try to find something like a brand, not necessarily a word, but something handy and unique, like Google. They did not searched for a keyword, but rather for a brand, and in the end, it worked so well that they created a keyword, Google is now a keyword.

Extensions matters as well. A .in domain would certainly have better and faster results in India than a .com.

But as said, all this mostly depends on the content you'd be offering in your website.

Actually i'm new in making website but not that new .. lol
I have registered with a domain company, so i have my domain .. now all i need is how to make my website? All i have access to is the Control Panel of that domain but where to establish the website?
Would you advise me how to go ahead?

Well, it looks like these are you first steps in the Internet world. And your wondering is the first one of all.

The answer is not easy at all, because so many different techniques can be used and the first thing to wonder IMHO is what would be your website main topic ?

Then, how would you want to interact with your users (serving content only, run a user DB ... ).

Then, to give you an hint about your wondering, here is how things works with domains and hosting :

On the one hand you have a domain name, and on the second one you have a server which is going to physically host the files that will be used for your web site.
These two needs to be set up properly for the domain name to be functional and linked to the physical folder (on a shared or dedicated server) where the site files are.

Usually, when starting, it's easier to rent your domain name using the same service that will host the site, but, it's not necessarily the case.
The domain name can be paid for using one service (registrar) and the hosting can be paid for separately (host).
In all cases, you should end up with two control panels, obviously better integrated together in case the registrar and the host is the same service. And these two needs to be set up properly to work together.
If you paid for both domain name and shared hosting at the same place, it is very likely that the domain will be already set up to be linked to the shared server.

Once these two points are fulfilled, you should have an ftp access to where the domain is pointing. You'd create a web site by just uploading files in there (could require some DB setup as well in case the script you choose requires it, but you can as well only use straight html at first).

Do you know easyphp ? Can be very handy to start testing locally and to build up you site before you go online.

Thanks writing me back.

In fact, I know how to make webpages using such softwares but the point is where to upload these pages where are ready. I don't know basicly about making website. Actually i'm an IT assistant so i know enough about computer and internet but in such website making cases, have no idea. Let me explain more and you may help me more basicly where i have to start.

I registered a Domain, (itexperts.com) ... then i have received a confirmation email with a link to the "itexperts.com" Control Panel, of course they send me the User name and Password to access the Control Panel.
So when i enter "itexperts.com" in my Internet Browser a page comes up with a files and directories which are not accessable but when i add "cpanel" to that address i mean "itexperts.com/cpanel" am directly going to Control Panel of "itexperts.com".

Now the point is what is the use of this Control Panel? Do i have to upload files or the webpages i made into this Control Panel?

And the next point is hosting, do i have to register for a hosting company either, do i have to go back to this Domain provider and ask them for the hosting service? or they have already included in my domain or this Control Panel?

You see my questions are fantastic .. lol .. cause i do really not have any idea about such stuff.

Do i have to pay either for the hosting? What a hosting service looks like? Does it the same with Domain Control Panel, so do i should upload files or webpages i made in this hosting Control Panel?

I really love to know about such things but i need to be told like a kid, you see my point? I have no one to help me in this case, so that's why when i found this site, put my questions in case there might be some one help me. .. so you did and i wish you would stay in contact ...

Then, I think you should start with a shared hosting, the cheapest and find out if your domain registration came with a shared web space.

Here shared does not mean you would actually share you hosting account, it's the server to be shared among multiple hosting account.

Basically a hosting account comes with an FTP access (could use filezilla to deal with ftp transfer, nice simple an free), it's just a regular folder structure on the server where you can add (upload) files that will be used for you site.
If you upload a file called index.html in the root folder, you'll see it when browsing your domain.

From there you can start building more pages and link them together to build you site. With php scripts, it's pretty much the same, but you will most likely need to set up a data base as well.

All this, FTP access + DB access ( eg ip + login + password) should be provided by your host when registering an web-space.

Some web hosting services are free, but you usually cannot link your own domain to it, price usually start from few dollars a month for paid ones.

Do I have to do all these works in Control Panel of my Domain?
There are 6 parts in my Domain Control Panel (Languages & Theme, Personal Scripts, Advance Tools, Analysis and log files, Email Management Tools and the last part is Site Management Tools). In Site Mangement Tools I have File Manager, Index Manager and FTP Manager. When i click on FTP Manager it shows me my FTP account as ftp@itexperts.com tell me about this...
And when i click on File Manager it shows me all the files and folders. Now do you mean that i have to upload files to this section, do i have to make a new folder and name it "root" or any other specific folder?

Actually i know the HTML Language, i made a file index.html and uploaded it in that File Manager section of my Domain Control Panel but when i type my domain address in Internet Explorer the same index as default comes up.

I still have dubt about hosting, have every thing included in this Domain Control Panel or not?
I have a FTP account as i said, so how can i go through it... how can i access it...

For the time being all i have access to is the Domain Control Panel...

Well this makes a really vast topic, the problem is each host runs it's own management, so I cannot tell you look for this in your control panel.

But, if you have an FTP access, then it looks like you do have a shared hosting together with your domain name, and these two should be linked together, but it's not necessarily the case. Ask your provider, there could be some extra activation to do in order to link domain and webspace together.

Once done, even without any file in your FTP, you should se the content (empty) of your FTP root.

wow .. finally ...
I made file index.html in Notepad then upload it to www folder in my File Manager of Domain Control Panel, now if i brws my domain .. it shows me that html ... cool i could do it... thank you friend.
Now the only thing is, MySQL Database. Do i have to know about it, i mean does it require? When i can do every thing in notepad, link my pages, upload photos (hey, how about upload photo? Should i upload it in the same www folder, but i saw another folder in www folder named public_ftp and inside that folder there is an item named images, how about this?) so what does MySQL do then?

I appreciate your help, without it i could do nothing up to now .. lol

Well, data bases is another story.

For example here on this site, phpBB (the forum) uses php scripts to build up the pages, but the posts content, as well as many other things, such as settings, forums, etc ..., are stored in a mysql data base.

Php is building each page on the fly, and queries the data base to fill them with the posts content.

PHP/mysql is a really vast topic, I advise you to start playing with a sample script, like phpBB. You can easily test locally (on your windows computer) using easyphp.
The principle will be the same online, first, you'll need to create a db, then run the install script.

Try Google on this one, since there are many tutorial online.

Hello Friend,
Sorry for short overwhelming silence. Actually i'm still struggling to learn how to make webpages. I do appreciate your informations, those were useful for me and i learned much about.

There are basically two ways to make a web page. The first way is to create the page(s) offline and then upload them to Internet Service Provider (ISP) via FTP. The second way is to create web page(s) online using a Telnet program by accessing UNIX account, if have one.

For the second way, seems a abit complicated and i'm not that interest of. For the frist way, If i'm creating my web page(s) offline, i can do it in any text editing or word processing document and save the document as a "text", "plain text" or "text only" document.

The first questions appears now, why save as "text" what if i save them as "html" like "index.html"?

The second question is, how to upload them to Internet Service Provider via FTP?

All i have access to is a Control Panel of my domain. Actually i have already upload a page i made myself and named it index.html and uploaded to a www folder. it works good, but when i was trying to save it in public_html or public_ftp it does not work.

The third question is would you tell me in which folder i should upload my pages (those i make them offline)? and would you explain what public_html and public_ftp are for and which pages must go to these folders?

I really appreciate your help and information.

It looks like public_html/ is the folder where to upload the files you want to use for your site.

In your Cpanel, you should have some information about the FTP connection.
Basically, you need a domain name (can be ftp.domain.com) or an IP, a login and a password.

You can use filezilla to connect, once installed, it's pretty simple to use, you can download and upload.

Thanks ... No more problem where to upload files and pages.

Now the question is,
What FTP does? I found my ftp account but how to go through it? because when i type http"//ftp.mydomain.com it doesn't come up...

lol.. the other day i made a page, named it home.html and uploaded it into www folder (public_html). i put a background picture for this page... every thing well done but the problem is, when i view this page live, texts appear first and then the background picture comes up, you know it does not look good.. actually i made this page in HTML language and then upload, how abou this? Did i forget some thing to add?
