My PHPBB-SEO powered SEO forumPosted: Wed Jan 17, 2007 6:06 pm    Post subject: My PHPBB-SEO powered SEO forum

http://www.davidcastle.org/BB/

I'm the technical admin for this site, its got most of the PHPBB-SEO mods installed on it.

We've just set ourselves the ambitious task of targetting the keyword phrase SEO Forum. Wink We like to be ambitious.

Any hints and tips more than welcome, and thanks for the excellent mods.

well there are few tips I want to give you,

1) Remove the “View Latest Post” icon and link on index.php (Craven de Kere)

This is a page rank drain issue. The link is restored but the image is removed because it makes the page too “busy” and because the images are not as attractive as the text link we will subsequently create using the last post date.

2) Make the date of the last post link to the last post like the icon did on index.php

3) Unlink the username of the last post on index.php (Craven de Kere)As explained above the latest post link is now accessed from thelatestt post date. There are a few reasons for this. First of all a text link is almost always better than an image link. Secondly the text link will change (as the dates change). This makes the link more attractive to search engines but most importantly it provides a slight chance at more keyword traffic by branding the link with a date and time as a keyword.

@sdas101

These advises are a little outdated with phpBB3 and our SEO tricks. Take a look at the demo server : http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/

The view latest post has become a text link using the topic url instead of the original post url, what was wrong is now good to keep.

For usernames, it's another debate, I personally think that profile can be indexed if your forum has enough topics, once adding the profile would not create a too big proportion of page with few content.
By default, profile are only available to registered users on phpBB3, and bots do not see user profiles links.

@BFTUK

Indeed it looks like you are using SMF, with some issue with stylesheet apparently, I cannot see any style applied to the forum right now.
