[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:20 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

Ok ... so I first reloaded all my backup files from my first attempt to get mixed_mod_rewrite functioning then started from scratch ....

I think I have everything working now ... when i click all my froum links I am getting .html output in the address bar and not .php

once again the site is www.survivinginfidelitysucks.com ... the sitemaps.xml is outputing xml links and the sitemap.php is also doing the same ... both are installed at root ...

Now I think I just need to do the add-on you posted in the other forum and also perform the 0.0.2 update ... just wanted to make sure I had it all right to this point ...

Thanks in advance!

[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 10:26 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

Perfect Wink

You just need to install the cyber alien's guest session mod as told in the install, to get rid of SIDs.

You can submit -http://survivinginfidelitysucks.com/sitemaps.xml to Google, it's working perfectly.

Then, I am not sure to understand you well when you talk about 0.0.2 update. could you clarify ?

[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 11:01 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

the 0.0.2 update is the update for mixed_mod_rewrite that is included in the download folder.

I did the latest post add-on and that rewrote the .php entries for the portal.

I am currently using the session ID removal mod for phpBB found at: www.phpbb.com/files/mods/remove_sid_for_guests.1.0.3.mod

I downloaded that from the phpBB site ... is that mod not sufficient or NOT working? hmmmm I am not seeing and SID=blah blah blah in the address bar when I navigate as a guest ... are you?

[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 11:12 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

I saw some sid last time, and cyber alien's method is better anyway.

So you installed the 0.0.2 version, the update is for if you'd have installed the 0.0.1 before.

[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 11:20 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

Yes ... I installed the 0.0.1 version of mixed_mod_rewrite and wanted to make sure everything was good before I did the 0.0.2 update

If there are SID's they will appear in the address bar correct?

I will back track and remove the SID mod I have and go with Cyber Alien's ... just gotta find some free time ...

The way my site is setup -www.survivinginfidelitysucks.com has a permanent re-direct to -www.survivinginfidelitysucks.com/portal b/c of mxBB being installed in a subfolder rather than root. When I submit to google I just need to submit -www.survivinginfidelitysucks.com/sitemaps.xml ... I don't need to do anything to address the fact that my portal is installed in the /portal directory do I?

Also can I submit this /sitemaps.xml to yahoo's beta as well?

Thanks again

[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 11:24 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

You can submit and you should always install the latest version, you'll save time Wink

Look : -http://survivinginfidelitysucks.com/sitemap.php?mx The links are correct with the portal path.

But you need to add one more rewrite rule for the rewritten mx sitemap link : -http://survivinginfidelitysucks.com/mx-sitemap.xml

You'll find it in the contrib/ folder's .htaccess. I forgot you where using mxBB last time sorry.

There is not mod rewrite available for mxBB 2.7.74 so far.

I'll see this after the recruiting will have ended up Wink

Thanks for the quick response!

So what are the SEO differences between the two? Which one would I get a better result with? Embarassed

Is there instructions on how to upgrade from the mixed to the advanced? I did a quick search but couldn't find any, but I am impatient Embarassed

[Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2Posted: Mon Dec 18, 2006 12:50 pm    Post subject: Re: [Archive] phpBB SEO Mixed mod Rewrite V 0.0.2

As said on the link, it depends on your forum's main topics.

What you don't want is a majority of bad topic titles to be injected in urls, like : "None of the other kids like me" which does not really need to be injected in URL.

The mixed one is the easiest to deal with, because you are the only one to choose the keywords in forum titles, and you won't have to fight for good topic titles.

But you could install the advanced with good results, if you moderate topic titles a bit.

Thanks, just need a little more advice. I tried installed the advanced mod here as a test:
http://www.swollenpickles.com/forum/

I can still access the forum etc. but when I click on a topic I get a 'page can't be found' error. Click here for an example:

Most likely an .htaccess issue, double check if you updated it properly, and post it here if you have doubts Wink

Still got problems ! Embarassed

My .htaccess looks like this:
Code:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^edu-hq.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.edu-hq.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

# FORUM PROTECTION RULE
RewriteRule ^forum/.+/([^/]+\.html)$ /forum/index.php [R=301,L]
# CATEGORIES
RewriteRule ^forum/.+-vc([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/index.php?c=$1 [QSA,L]
# PAGINATED FORUM
RewriteRule ^forum/.+-vf([0-9]+)-([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/viewforum.php?f=$1&start=$2 [QSA,L]
# FORUM
RewriteRule ^forum/.+-vf([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/viewforum.php?f=$1 [QSA,L]
# PAGINATED TOPIC
RewriteRule ^forum/.+-vt([0-9]+)-([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/viewtopic.php?t=$1&start=$2 [QSA,L]
# TOPIC
RewriteRule ^forum/.+-vt([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/viewtopic.php?t=$1 [QSA,L]
# POST
RewriteRule ^forum/post([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/viewtopic.php?p=$1 [QSA,L]
#PROFILES
RewriteRule ^forum/member([0-9]+)\.html$ /forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=$1 [QSA,L]

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

# END WordPress

Basically this is what I'd like to happen. If people type in http://edu-hq.com they get sent to http://www.edu-hq.com which acts as the homepage. From there I'd like three sub directories like below:

http://www.edu-hq.com
/blog
/forum
/directory

How do I set up .htaccess to make this all happen as well as work with the forum rewrite rule?
