Hello, since I've done the mixed mod rewrite, my html pages have not been indexed. The only pages that keep getting indexed in google are the .php pages I've got. It simply ignores the html pages. Please help. Is there anything that's probably causing this or am I being too anxious? Maybe it's going to take time to index them?
I did all the zero duplicate and robots.txt and even submitted sitemap on my site so I don't see why the html pages are not being indexed. Please help! |

Hello, greenjeyes. In some cases, It does take time to see your new SEO'd pages in google... or to even see the viewtopic.php pages disappear can take some time. I experienced the exact same thing when I first SEO'ed my forum. It does get cleaner with time I can tell you that.
For as long as your zero dupe mod is working correctly, you have nothing to worry about because they will be redirected ( 301 ) to the proper URL's. So it really will not hurt your forum in page ranking if that was one of your concerns...
To make sure if your URL's are getting redirected with 301 properly, go to http://web-sniffer.net/ and put in one of those old URL's that you see on google search results and test it out. If all is good, you should see a message saying "permanently moved" or something to that, and you will see right then and their if the URL is redirected using 301.
I hope that helps. |

Hello, Peter77 thanks for the reply. I think I might found the problem but I don't know how to correct it. I used a search engine simulator to view my site and it listed the links on the homepage (and every other page) as example: www.voiceofnaija.com/topic221.html instead of www.voiceofnaija.com/forum/topic221.html
So the spider has probably been seeing dead links. How do I correct this? Help!

Spider simulator can not always be trusted. In your case, I think that it's the meta refresh on -www.voiceofnaija.com that does not help. Bots do not really like them.
It would be a lot better if you use a welcome page with a link to the forum. The alternative is to use http 301 redirection, but I personally would use a welcome page, because building PageRank on it could be useful in the future, when you'll start using the root level of your domain to extend your site outside the forum.
As well, you could obtain better result using our GYM sitemap module rather than the simple one you're using for now.
