Will Google stay the best search engine or is it time to movPosted: Sat Dec 23, 2006 12:58 pm    Post subject: Will Google stay the best search engine or is it time to mov

Following my thread here, I want to know what do you think about Google are they going to be around for much longer or will they drop, word has it that Microsoft have been spending a lot of money on there search engine MSN, but will they really be able to pull off what Google has?
I think they could have a big chance if they play there cards right.

Google is the nets 900 pound giant right now.... Microsoft will have to do YEARS of catching up. It will probably be a process like the Macs vs PCs.... slowly gains popularity (if they do things right and even have a chance).

Google is huge and has the edge over all the other search engines.

I read recently that Yahoo is the most visited site in the world, but still everyone uses Google to search. I would guess that some of this is due to the search facility on webmasters sites that is from the webmasters adsense account and so any featured links that are clicked on in the search results will mean that the webmaster will also get paid!

I do this on my site even for the phpbb forum. The search facility in phpbb is not too good and so when someone clicks on search it takes them to a search page that is Google based search and if a featured link is clicked I get paid a little Wink

By checking my site statistics I can see that Google really is king and sends about 40% of traffic to my site. MSN is nowhere to be seen!

Google is king Very Happy

MSN sends negligible traffic to my site. If they're the up and coming search engine, they are hiding that fact from webmasters.

Google gets my thumbs up not only because they send quality traffic, but they make the webmaster's job easier. Google's webmaster tools and Analytics work well, and their bot gets the job done in a hurry.

I'm not a conspiracy nut, but I wonder if Yahoo's mediocre traffic is punishment for refusing to choke up a yearly fee ($300!) for inclusion in their directory and ongoing fees for their "sponsored search" entries. They have a free submission process; I dutifully played that game for a year and always came up snake eyes. Each time I was reminded that they'd be happy to process my entry in less than 7 days IF I paid their yearly fee.

Yahoo is evil. I may ban their bandwidth-hungry bot on principle alone. Evil or Very Mad
