phpbb running slow

I seem to keep having a problem with phpbb and php link directory running slow on my site. It is not all of the time, but sometimes when I click on a forum post or one of the directory pages it takes ages to load and the page just seems to pause before loading.

The static pages on my site are not effected, only the ones that are connected to a database.

Should I be worried about this, or is there something that I can do?

The price of popularity. If you're on a shared server, you'll hit the wall faster. Short answer is "upgrade to faster hardware". Performance optimization is not an easy subject. This site is handy for HTML optimization:

Your forum page was 128K with most of that being cache-able, so no obvious problems. Oddly enough, the Google Webmasters tools "Set crawl rate" graph can be very good at predicting your site performance over long periods. When GoogleBot starts reporting average times in excess of 1.5 seconds, you know an upgrade is not far off.

Thanks Dan,

I think it is my web hosts that are causing the problems as the site regularly crashes. I am now looking at moving to another server to see if this removes the problems that I have been having.

Since the site has been moved to the new server it is like lightening and is a vast improvement
