subdomains and $phpbb_root_path errorPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 3:57 pm    Post subject: subdomains and $phpbb_root_path error

I've noticed that my site has been falling down the ratings when searching for Widgets For Sale even though my site is called Widgets.co.uk, because there is another domain WidgetsForSale.co.uk too. So in my wisdom (yeah, right...) I decided to create a subdomain from my site, and now I have WidgetsForSale.Widgets.co.uk. All good so far...
Now I need to transfer some real widgety content to there from my existing site, and here I have a problem. phpbbFetchAll adequately describes how to navigate the hierarchy for finding the phpbb root path, but fails spectacularly to mention subdomains! So, in the scenario above, where phpbb is in the root level of widgets.co.uk, how do I persuade FetchAll to spot it from the command
Code:
$phpbb_root_path = '../../../';

Any advice appreciated
PS. Obviously I thought of trying for support at FetchAll first, but this does seem to be a php question rather than a specific one, and I hoped you guys would be aware Wink

subdomains and $phpbb_root_path errorPosted: Sat Mar 03, 2007 1:42 pm    Post subject: Re: subdomains and $phpbb_root_path error

And welcome Very Happy

Sub domains can help out adding weight on a keyword, but, this is not necessarily what will make your website first on SERPs.

The most important matter once you web site is well indexed is content. You probably need good and detailed articles about you most important keywords.

Then, before you switch to a sub domain set up, you must be pretty sure about the way you'll be able to do it. HTTP 301 redirecting the older forum links to the new location is a must to keep your current indexing.

Technically, it depends, on this web site, forums used to be installed in sub domains.

The only matter is if you want to keep sessions across sud domains, as on phpBB SEO.
To do so, you need to set you cookie domain to : .example.com (noticed the dot ".") with you real main domain of course Wink.

But, to give you more detailed advices, I'd need to know a bit more about your set up : folder structure, where is the main domain installed and where is the sub domain installed ?
Does the main one need to include files from the sub domain ?

Things like that.
