|
|
Over the past couple of years, I've been adding better linking to my PHPBB forum via small hacks inside the php code and various additions to my htaccess file.
At this point, I'd like to scrap all the previous mods and install many of the SEO Mods listed on here.
My question, I guess, is where should I start? Since I've hard-coded my own SEO linking in several places, I'm wondering if it'll hurt the installation of the SEO Mods listed here? |

Most likely yes.
I think you should skip the phpBB2 modding and concentrate on the phpBB3 upgrade. It would be a good occasion to change the way, and most likely the URL rewriting standard on your forum and would be in the end easier I think.
Beside, it would not be this efficient to first redirect all your phpBB2 URLs to our URL rewriting standards and then, do it again when converting to phpBB3.
Unless you plan to keep phpBB2 for a long time of course.
All you would need to do in all cases (phpBB2 and phpBB3) once you'll have installed the mod rewrite, is to make sure the older rewriterules are still up and running , to allow the zero duplicate to do it's job.
| Code: | | old-rewriten-url => old rewriterule => phpbb_script => zero duplicate => HTTP 301 => new rewriterule, new URL, same page |
