oh I see about the archive mod and vbulletin now.

Well, the same mod exist for phpBB but, again, these page will be duplicate content, even though, there are differences in the html code, I am pretty sure Bots do, or will, make no difference and understand it's duplicate content. And in all cases, this is one more page with the same search-able content, so it is less probability to be visiting either one of the two than to just be visiting one unique one.

Thus, Page Ranking will be jeopardized using this kind of tricks, even though is some case, it could end up helping out.
We all know a lot of web sites actually using balcklistable methods do show up in very good positions in search results.
I just do not like to play like this, because I am sure that in the end, Search Engines do not like this kind of things, because they create abnormal amount of content. And they almost all use human ranking as well, so, Bots are not the only one to deal with.
I really think that in order to Optimize the way our content can be found and ranked by search engine we need to keep in mind our interest is the exact same as for everybody, what is found must be related to what was searched. We don't want to make it impossible, and I am sure that "clean" sites, well categorised, and known to provide good answers to search queries will benefit.

Unicity in URL is I believe one the most important principle to follow while Search Engine Optimizing.

Then, talking about templates, I think everyone should use a unique template as well, there is nothing easier than finding out what are the sites using this template and to start categorising them upon such criteria in the digital world. And the same apply to human, unicity is always more attractive, at least IMHO Wink

as you said this sort of mod can be harmful. i think sitemap module is much better than this. the installation of sitemap module is quite simple and saw its
effect with my own eyes
