Redirects of moved topics etcPosted: Sat Feb 16, 2008 6:31 am    Post subject: Redirects of moved topics etc

Hi,

if a topic is moved to another forum, the link is not "SEO" translated Sad

Shouldn't matter, because its redirected to the SEO url when clicked, but its an extra redirect...

When a topic is moved to another forum, the "old link" is not redirected, but it gives a "not found"...

Is it possible to get a no-index no-follow somehow on the not found pages?

thanks

Redirects of moved topics etcPosted: Sat Feb 16, 2008 8:17 am    Post subject: Re: Redirects of moved topics etc

mmm.

I do not have this bug : http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/demo-en/

See the "moved topic", the link is rewritten directly with the new id including the new forum url bit in our case, since on the demo board virtual folder is activated.

Could you elaborate a bit more on this one for me to be able to reproduce the bug if any ?

Look here:

http://balipod.com/bali-expat-forum-f2/

You will find a few links to posts, and no SEO'd urls for those.

I have not changed anything in the premodded version...

besides the template....

All right, I could reproduce this "bug", but only for active topic listing and with forum cache deactivated so far.
The forum title/url is in such case is only available from the cache.

But in your case, it's not an active topic listing so, is forum caching activated on your forum ?

If so, try to activate it, it's faster even if you keep forum id and do not set up personalized forum url as you seem to do.

If not, this mean that it's the topic title not to be available in your case.

Knowing this would help out to investigate further.

Of all the options in the SEO admin section, only "Virtual Root" is off.

Url rewriting is set to "Advanced" and Posts Rewriting to "All".

I have installed about 4 seo pre-mod forums, and none of them show the modded url Shocked in moved topics.

I have checked if the correct code is present in viewforum.php , and it is.

If I can "debug" or something, to find out where things go wrong, let me know...

I have a few forums you can login to as admin, just let me know...

Now that's strange.

Have you always tried on existing forums or do you get this also when installing the premod from scratch ?

As said, it's far from an SEO threat, but still, I'd like to find out exactly what's causing this to fix it.

Your topics or server set up must have something special compared to mine, because it's not what's happening on the demo server.

I'll perform some further test on this.
If you want to give an hand, it would be great to know what's occurring when your turn virtual folder on with and without id removal as well. Do it within a private location because you don't want to play like this with your real board.

When activating id removal, You'll need to submit forum url (even without altering them) once before they will really go away.

I have two environments, Linux and Windows, and both same result.

If I turn "Virtual Folder" off, the url of the moved topic is seo'd, if on, not...

All my installations are conversions from phpBB2, and I used the pre-modded phpbb3 from this site.

All right, so this confirm that it's the forum url bit to be empty, not the topic one (both are required in virtual folder mode).

I still do not fully get why the forum url cannot be retrieved from the cache in your case though.

I guess I need more time to investigate further ...

Hmmm

where is the Forum URL Cache located? In the phpBB SEO cache folder?

Nothing much happening there, files are never changed... (Only settings)

Also, the Forum ID Removing setting, does not have any effect on my forums... Keep getting id's. (Not that I ever want to change that again... now...)

All right !

Maybe this is a check to add in the phpBB SEO ACP, even if the case seems pretty rare where you'd properly chmod the cache dir and would not end up with enough right to write again in the file created there.
