Hi,

there was a mod for phpBB2 which replaced the two links

view previous topic :: view next topic

with a centred

<-- previous topic's title - next topic's title -->

which certainly helped users and I reckon SEO-wise as well:
In most of the cases both topic titles have something in common, are probably rather recent and should have a similar effect as the related topic mod has.
Furthermore it would help content related inline ads to pick up the right keywords.

If I'm not mistaken this modification would further augment the efficiency of your premod.
Maybe you want to consider including it in a future release?

Well, rewriting these would require two extra sql per topic pages, I don't find this much worth it.
I believe that SEO mods should be as light as possible, to keep resources for what matter the most for users : cosmetic mods and page loading time.

That's why they are kept unrewritten, to be disallowable by the robots.txt.
