How each of the options relate...Posted: Wed Aug 27, 2008 2:39 pm    Post subject: How each of the options relate...

I have been running a forum for a while now and since I have realized each one of the mods here at phpbb-seo is very helpful and complex in that they affect the way phpbb works quite a bit, I have decided to play around with the premod before I do any major changes....

At first I was going to install each one individually, but opted against that...

So I ended up setting up the forum on a domain I own that I haven't used yet... I installed the phpBB Premod and have the forum up and running and started to play with the settings a bit... I've updated my htaccess, I've tested multiple configurations, etc... Pretty much every time I muck around I have failed to come up with something that works.

Sometimes the site will show there are no forums, sometimes the forum will work but a sub-forum won't, other times i can't even get a directory. I've been playing around and looking for info on how to configure this properly but I haven't really found any good documentation on how these features interrelate.

Nor have I found any detailed directions on how to configure these options...

I understand I'm asking a very general question, being, "what do I do" and "where can I find info on how to do it" but I find the documentation and help here to be rather chaotic and rather hard to navigate.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The options are documented in the ACP, while changing many of them, you'll need to generate and install a new .htaccess once done.
For the mods includes in the premod, reading the release threads of each will help you out as well as the install files if you need more clues. But the premod usage is pretty straight forward, once of course you understand the possibilities a bit more (testing is the way to go for this).

So at first, try to do the set up that you'd like in the phpbb_seo class settings tab, and then generate an .htaccess.
And put it where is should (red bold message).
It should work right away, but you could need to play a bit with the .htaccess generator (the more options option) in case it doesn't.

Once you'll have your first .htaccess up and running, you'll have understood pretty much all the "technical" part.

To test other options in the phpbb_seo class, you'll need to generate a new .htaccess each time you change something, and implement it the same way (and with the same eventual adaptations) you first did.

Embarassed

I take all that back... It was very simple and straightforward... Turns out I was just a bit too drunk to realize my .htaccess wasn't in the root directory and every time i modified and saved it, it really wasn't doing anything...

Great mod... I love it...

I'm very excited to get this up and running where I really need it...

So my question is this... I have a bunch of mods already installed on my live forum. Now that I have everything working and know my settings and what to do, can I just open up both forums with a diff tool make all the changes, upload it, go in my admin, make the changes, then update my .htaccess?

so yeah, a little bit of lurking and of course you will always find your answer...

http://www.phpbb-seo.com/boards/phpbb-seo-premod/discussions-vt1962.html#13688

I ended up doing the merge of all the changed files... the uploading the phpbb_seo_install.php file into

/forum/phpbb_seo/

which then installed the mod utility... after that i configured my options, configured my directory preferences, then copied the .htaccess changes over to the .htaccess in root. since i have other configurations in my existing .htaccess that i need to keep, i just added what was there in it's own section and made sure that there were no duplicate statements...

good to go...

i also decided to make a new thread telling my members what i did and gave another link to phpbb-seo.com

I truly appreciate all the work you have put forth on these mods and a link is very little in exchange for your work...

Thanks
