Well it's a pretty vague question.
Could be because your session expired or because your template is not up to date if I had to guess.

There's a bug in RC8 and I don't know if it was fixed in gold because I haven't looked yet but i know it was fixed in the CVS prior to the release of gold.

If under security settings>Maximum time to submit forms: ... You have it set to -1 to disable it you will actually be setting a time limit of 30 seconds for any forms including registration. Instead set it to 7200 which is the deafult or something more reasonable.
