The SID appears sometimesPosted: Fri Jul 13, 2007 1:50 am    Post subject: The SID appears sometimes

I have deactivated the SID with your SEO mods, but sometimes it appears at the index page when I'm logged out. Could you help me to avoid the SID in all pages?

With :
Code:
      $this->seo_opt = array( 'rem_sid' => true,

No SID will show up on rewritten links for guest only. Now it's possible than when you log out, some links are still build before your online status really changed, or something like that.

In all case, things bot do not do, and better, if you follow one of these links, you're HTTP 301 redirected (as a guest again).

A link could help to check out, but I doubt this is more than this. You need SID sometime, what matters is that SE do not see and list any, which is accomplished fully by the phpBB SEO mods.

Ok, thank you... anyway, I have two main doubts with all this SEO thing. maybe you could help me:

- Are these really long URLs really SEO-wise? Could these URLs be considered spam or something?:

http://mydomain.com/phpBB3/plugins-e-instrumentos-virtuales-f37/joel-fajerman-aventura-de-las-plantas-midifile-s-o-s-t137263.html
http://mydomain.com/phpBB3/plugins-e-instrumentos-virtuales-f37/fxpansion-bdf-vs-toontrack-ezdrummer-cual-elegir-t137052.html

Maybe using stopwords or avoiding words less than 3 characters would improve this... I don't know. Anyway, I'm about to launch my site, so I can't do that kind of changes after going online.

- Is it SEO-safe to have a lot of 301 redirections permanently showed in our forums? (for example, the topic title in viewtopic is always something like /phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=137052&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

- What about the future? Think about phpBB4... what will happen with our URLs? These URLs are dinamically generated... maybe in the future something will change in the phpBB code and we could not generate the same URLs, causing a SEO chaos... am I too much frightened? Very Happy

I don't know... maybe it would be wise to left the URLs in some of these formats:

phpBB3/f45/t9854.html
phpBB3/my-forum-f45/t9854.html

What do you think? Are we really improving so much our SEO with those long URLs?

Well, this is why we released three different mod rewrite for phpBB2 Wink

There will be more for phpBB3 Smile

For sure, virtual folder injection (forum in topic url) requires pretty short forum names to really be efficient.

First trick would be to install such rewriting preferably when phpBB is installed in the domain's root.

About phpBB4, well, nothing more than when converting from phpBB2 to phpBB3, the zero duplicate is here for this.

Zero duplicate in all cases, no SEO mess, it's just a matter of not changing all your web site url to often.

Do you have an idea of when these alternative modules will be released? I'm almost ready to launch my new forums. I really prefer a "classical" URL like phpBB3/f25/topic1234.html. I'm too much frightened about these long URLs...

Also... I have edited my last message in this thread, adding some further questions. Could you read it again please? I'm very interested in your considerations. Thank you!

Not in this thread it seems.

About a release date, nothing is sure, we are all developing during our free time. But it should be done this summer.

The advanced standard can really be great, you could just make sure you do not use too long forum titles, and play with the short URL feature (with [ and ]) and install your forum at the root level.
