| I noticed that I need to have the option "virtual root" set to yes when my forum isn't in a subfolder. When my forum was in a subfolder it didn't work at all. |

I've tested it and it's work, maybe something wrong with your htaccess.
Try to update it when you change the SEO setting, coz it's related. |
