Outrageous - where have my forums gone?Posted: Sat Jun 14, 2008 10:42 pm    Post subject: Re: Outrageous - where have my forums gone?

I've had this SEO advanced mod installed for a few weeks now, today I tried to install the zero and no dupe mods. Now I have NO forums at all. I cannot access anything except for the admin panel. I tried turning off the seo mod altogether and remove the htaccess file then go to the normal forum/index.php page but it still says it doesnt exist... huh???? please help me with this, I have thousands of forum members who are quite bewildered like myself at the moment Sad

btw when i dfinished installing the 2nd of the mods, 'no dupe' i could go to a forum but viewing a topic gave me a 404 error, i then cleared the cache and now everything is unreachable and I get 500 error

That's exactly why we strongly encourage a local test install prior to going online, especially when it's the first time you are trying the mod, not that using our mod is risky or that they do not work or even that they are hard to install, but it must be done properly, since more than just php is involved, it's pretty easy to block an entire website or to experience a lot of 404 when playing with an .htaccess, even though the mistakes are most of the time and by far trivial.

The install steps explained in the install file should prevent most issues, since everything is well separated, first code, then .htaccess test and in the end url rewriting activation.

Of course you need the mod rewrite up and running before you do anything else, like installing the zero dupe, it's only making things harder for debugging.

So, my advice would be to go back to before the zero dupe install, then make sure about the mod rewrite (404 do only mean that you have an issue in your .htaccess which should be nothing to deal with) and ten install the zero duplicate.
