I have the phpbb seo set up on a local install and when I try the links in the top menu not all the pages open, when I look at the urls, I notice that they are not consistant. They should be like this: -http://localhost:8888/phpbb/faq.php
but some are like this :
-http://localhost/forum.html and they of course don't open. Can anyone help me understand why this is happening.

Looks like the server path is not set correctly in your server settings.
1) Admin AcP
2) Server Settings (Under Server Config)
3) Change the server port from 80 to 8080
4) Change the Script Path to the correct path of your site. From the above, change it from / to /phpbb
