| I'm planning to add SEO mod to my phpBB3 forum hosting site. Which SEO MOD would be the best for that? |

| I would use the mixed URL rewrite mod. The advanced URL rewrite mod is only worthwhile if the topic titles are worthwhile, which frequently requires moderator oversight. Too many "/forums/question-t532.html" type URLs defeats the purpose of keywords in the URL. The mixed URL rewrite mod injects only the forum name, which the admin selects, and doesn't include the topic title. |

Could you show me some examples of advance mod and mix mod (urls) because i don't understand the differences :/ (from the numbers of the post in Advance mod thread i can see that Advance mod is much more popular :/ ) What about if i use only optimal titles (http://downloads.phpbb-seo.com/phpbb3-seo-toolkit-11/optimal-titles-42.html )? How much more CPU, RAM does forum with SEO MOD (for url) use (i'm planning to have a lot of forums and users)? |

Here is an example of the mixed mod rewrite (through the SEO premod) with a decent amount of users and posts : http://forums.phpbb-fr.com/
Performances are great as you can see, and the no duplicate is activated
The advanced is a slightly bit heavier, but the difference is not very sensible, you can see it working here : http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/
The seo stat mod is installed on the demo server (look at the footer), you can install it if you want more clues.
About the choice, HB is right, I guess that the "advanced" word is the one to blame (sexier maybe) for the advanced mod success, the mixed mode is the one that usually is the best to use, especially with the virtual folder trick, but the advanced can be a bit better with good topic titles.
You should take the time to try the premod, to fully test the possibilities before you go online, will help you out to better understand. |

That is really interesting because i thought that advance mod is better and i still exactly don't know what are it's pros.

What is virtual folder trick?
For example which page (if the content would be theoretically the same, both two pages would have the same backlinks... - so the pages would be the same, the only difference would be url and title) would rank better in google for keyword "Installation interminable"
This one http://forums.phpbb-fr.com/support-installation-phpbb3/sujet151242.html (with
title: phpBB-fr.com • Installation interminable : Installation
and
url -http://forums.phpbb-fr.com/support-installation-phpbb3/sujet151242.html)
or this one (let say that the content and other things would be the same; and of course the keyword would be installation interminable and not le-forum-demo-de-la-premod):
url:http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/demo-fr/le-forum-demo-de-la-premod-t1.html
title: Le forum Démo de la premod : Forum de démonstration Français
I think that the second one (advance SEO MOD) for keyword phrase " Installation interminable" would rank better in google, would be higher in SERP
Why i think so?
- keyword phrase "Installation interminable" is at the beginning of the title and also url has whole keyword phrase ""Installation interminable" in it.
Why is than mix mod better if there is no keyword in URL? I'm confused. (confused also because i don't know what is better in case if there would be a lot of threads "Installation interminable" on my forums)
(for my phpBB hosting site i count on "LONG TAIL keyword" because i don't believe that forum users would backllink there threads... )
(hope you understand what i wanna to say despite my bad english ) |

HB is just the first team member that replied to you
About URLs, first the so called "virtual folder trick" is an option in our mods, it's :
example.com/forum-url/topic-url.html vs example.com/topic-url.html
eg with or without the forum url in topic url (virtual dir).
About urls, your example makes sens since it's a pretty nice topic title : "Installation interminable"
but it would not be the case with a topic title like "ho my god, this mods rocks, I love it, but I just can't install it", or even worst "hello here, I am a new member and the weather is pretty nice where I stand", things like that.
That's why we talk about average topic title quality. A bad topic title quality overall would make the advanced mode useless, if not counter productive. Of course, topic title can be moderated and you can ask your user to use decent ones, but in some cases it's just not possible.
About linking, user will for sure post some links to topics in your forums, for sure not this many from other sites, but the internal linking is still important.
So I suggest you give a try to our SEO premod, you'll be able to try all our SEO mods at once, it's worth testing several settings to see how it works.
