Err 404 - going crazyPosted: Fri Sep 05, 2008 5:56 am    Post subject: Err 404 - going crazy

Hi.

I'm really going crazy here. I've installed on phpbb3.0.2 Advanced Mod rewrite and I can't get it to work... I've read almost everything here on the forum and I can't spot the problem.

Mod rewrite IS available on the server, the .htaccess IS loaded, but I get, no matter which link I try on the forum the 404 error. The address is www.muccelmic.com/forum_copii.

The index link in the browser looks like this: http://www.muccelmic.com/forum_copii/index.php?sid=72791642078597fb49d9d86a46f5c710 and when I click on a forum name I get this in the browser: http://www.muccelmic.com/noi-pentru-voi-invers-f10/

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I can't realise what.

I've generated the .htaccess, savded it, chose more options - RegEx Right Slash: Yes and then sent the info again.
I copied the .htaccess to www.muccelmic.com/forum_copii/.htaccess - where my forum is located (the folder forum_copii).

What am I missing?

This is the .htaccess file generated:

# Lines That should already be in your .htacess
<Files "config.php">

Deny from All
</Files>
<Files "common.php">

Well, if you use the virtual root option, you will have to place this .htaccess in your domain's root, if you already have an .htaccess there, you'll have to merge it with the phpBB3 one, post it here in case you need help to do so.

And you as well need to make sure that only one .htaccess is in use for the forum, eg either in the domain's root or in phpBB's dir, not both.

Err 404 - going crazyPosted: Sat Sep 06, 2008 7:17 pm    Post subject: Re: Err 404 - going crazy

I've regenerated the .htaccess file, without the virtual root and it still doesn't work. The links look like this: http://www.muccelmic.com/forum_copii/sunt-burtica-saptamani-balon-f12/ but I get a 404 errorr too.

I have only one .htaccess file for the forum, in the folder the forum is in (forum_copii). The .htaccess file in the root only referes to oscommerce and coppermine.

The .htaccess file generated with phpbb seo is this now:

# Lines That should already be in your .htacess
<Files "config.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>
<Files "common.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All

Err 404 - going crazyPosted: Sat Sep 13, 2008 8:19 am    Post subject: Re: Err 404 - going crazy

It's just that you need to generate an .htaccess meant to be used in the forum dir (forum_copii/ in your case), the red bold message in the .htaccess generator must tell you that this one is meant to be used in the domain's root dir.

To generate a .htaccess meant to be used in the forum_copii/ dir, just hit the "more options" option of the .htaccess generator, and then "alternate location", the red bold message should now tell you to install the .htaccess in the forum_copii/ dir and it should work Wink

Thank you for your help. I managed to solve the problem yesterday, I'm not sure how I did it, but finally I have an .htaccess in the root and it works. Now I'm installing other seo mods and I wanted to tell the world how great you guys are and how great these mods are! Smile

Err 404 - going crazyPosted: Sun Sep 21, 2008 8:22 am    Post subject: Re: Err 404 - going crazy

Well I also have a smilar problem. I am using rokbridge between joomla and phpBB, therefor I have phpbb installed in /forum/ folder.

My .htaccess is in root as I use it for joomla SEO, I have installed advanced mod rewrite and forum works if I don't have it enabled, so no errors there. I seem to have a problem merging my .htaccess file.

As soon as I click on some forum link I get 404 error for that url Sad ...I really tried to play around with it but with no luck so far.

Here is my merged .htacces file.

Code:

Err 404 - going crazyPosted: Sun Sep 21, 2008 2:09 pm    Post subject: Re: Err 404 - going crazy

Well ...it was just no way to make it work with only one .htacess in root folder, so I had to use seperate .htaccess files and that finally solved my issue.
