Backlinks to index splitPosted: Wed Oct 10, 2007 8:22 pm    Post subject: Backlinks to index split

I've been checking the iwebtool PageRank prediction for one of my domains and got the following results: link

What worries me here is that the backlinks for the old index.php still haven't been transferred after three months to forum/index/

It also seems to treat index/ and index as two separate URLs, so splitting the backlinks between them.

Presumably my zero dupe isn't set up properly?

P.S. Exactly how reliable is this tool anyway? Google itself seems to be ignoring all these backlinks.

http://web-sniffer.net/?url=www.gladtalk.co.uk%2Fforum%2Findex.php

Returns 'permanently moved', but includes the SID. Did you install the guest session mod?

I consider such tools for entertainment only. Google's Webmaster Tools includes a table of backlinks (External Links), why not look there?

Well, it at least require a Google dance to see PageRank updated, so depending on when you changed the index location, it can take two if the first one was too close to acknowledge the redirecting.

HB, we're talking about phpBB3, no guest sessions mod Wink

About the SID being present while testing the headers, it only occurs because the header check tool does not accept cookies, it's not the case with bots and humans Wink

Backlinks to index splitPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2007 7:25 pm    Post subject: Re: Backlinks to index split

In my htacess, the following rule is commented out:

# FORUM INDEX REWRITERULE WOULD STAND HERE IF USED. 'forum' REQUIRES TO BE SET As FORUM INDEX
# RewriteRule ^forum/forum\.html$ forum/index.php [QSA,L,NC]

Is this correct if I want to use /forum/ only and not forum/index.php?

Yes Wink

Actually, the generated .htaccess is taking all the settings of the phpBB SEO class into account, if you'd chosen to use index.html (or forum.html or whatever) for your forum index, this particular rewriterule whould have been uncommented and valid.

I left it commented when it's not used to let user know they could need it depending on their settings Wink
