yeah i say things that i know.
with advanced rewrite mod u can change the usual forum links like a topic have this address:(that is about nature)
| Code: | | www.test.com/forum/viewtopic?p#12.php |
but if use this mod u will have
| Code: | | www.test.com/forum/nature.html |
u can see the php also changed to html. (amazing)
this method will have effect that your topic and also your whole forum will index better.
now about the zero duplicate mod:
this mod is extra that require runing the advanced rewrite mod and with this automatically u will get rid of the duplicated pages.
and also the index page of your forum that usually is:
but after using this mod will bew only:
| Code: | | www.test.com/forum/ |
and u can see that your index forum page like other topics is not duplicate,so it is better for search engines and your page rank will increase.
hope it be useful |

In the spirit of balance... I agree duplicates are not a good thing, either resource or search engine wise, but to play the "Devil's Advocate", I'm not aware of hard evidence proving that the elimination of duplicate pages changes your site's page rank.
Barring evidence to the contrary, I assume the developers at Google are intelligent. They could figure out how to ignore duplicate pages in their page rank calculations and choose not to "punish" foolish webmasters who generate a few duplicates here and there. That said, it's unquestionably true that elimination of dupes will reduce the demand on your site's server and improve the efficiency of bots. That by itself is a good thing.

The premod has them both installed. You active them (or not) in the ACP. |

A duplicate page is when two or more url can be used to reach the same page, like a post url in phpBB (without our SEO mods of course). viewtopic.php?p=xx in the end loads the same exact page as if you where using the corresponding topic url (viewtopic.php?t=yy&start=zz). Several url, same page, that's duplicate content, and phpBB does provide with many at first (as many as post per topic page plus many other due to pagination).

You're right for PageRank, but I'm not this sure when it comes to SERPs. Problem is duplicate reduction can decrease significantly the amount of page indexed, and the total amount of indexed pages being as well an important parameter for SE to evaluate a web site impact.
What is for sure is duplicate pages will tend to exclude each other from SERPs, so reducing them should help each individual page to rank better in serps, but, at the same time, if the total amount of pages decreases, it can lower the overall web site "weight" a bit, since the web site could then look smaller.
My opinion about this is that running a duplicate free web site is better for SERPs on the long run, and that duplicate reduction will not get things worst, in some case, it's possible that a huge decrease in the amount of indexed pages will compensate the benefit of duplicate reduction, at first, but, I don't think it can go further, and then, it's a good thing on the long run. |
