| I had been operating 2 boards. One of them was hacked, so I just re-directed the domain to the current board. The old domain currently has a pr of 3 and the new domain has a pr of 0. I am trying to build links to the new domain and I can't seem to get it out of the 0 hole. I don't know much about SEO but am I being penalized for redirecting the old domain to the new one? I apologize if this question sounds ridiculous. |

Why did you change domain after you went hacked ?
With full control over your host and domain (eg if it's not a free host) you could have 1) reinstall the site on the same domain or 2) move the domain to the new host.
It would have been a lot better SEO wise.
Because here, it's like starting again from scratch SEO wise, new domain are not treated at first as old ones. Time is a real matter SEO wise.
About your redirection, if it's an HTTP 301, there is no problem. Your old domain backlinks will be forwarded to the new domain, but it will take some time for the PageRank to be transmitted, at least a Google dance if not two, which usually means around 4 to 6 month.
But it's not what will really matter, what matters is : is your new domain fully indexed, or at least as well indexed as the previous and did the SERPs changed, because they should not.

I was actually running 2 separate boards when the one was hacked. I felt it would be easier to concentrate on one board so I just redirected the domain. I am not sure what I will do with the existing domain but I will just redirect it for now.
Thanks for your response! |
