Well, in this case, the indexing of his custom post URLs is very recent, so it's not a big time loss.
And again post URLs are the one we don't want to be listed, really don't, so something must be done.

Another possibility here would be to just disallow them in robots.txt and wait for the Zero dupe that will take care of all this.

17 000 post, with 15 post per topic page will end up being all listed with no dupe with 17 000 / 15 = 1133.33 URLs

To this, you need to add the total number of forum divided by the number of topic per page, should not end up being more than few hundred more if not less.

So you're most likely to end up with less than 1500 URLs listed in search engine once all duplicates will be gone, but this is very good and should lead to better search results ranking and thus visits.

Yes, but there is no point to keep many duplicates indexed, no point at all you can believe me.

While the duplicate reduction strategy we put together here is working, your PageRank will increase and you'll end up being found in search engines a lot more.

A Google dance seems to be going on these days, so expect some changes in PageRank Baklinks and Indexing, we'll know more when it will end.
