removing member linkPosted: Thu Nov 20, 2008 3:45 pm    Post subject: removing member link

hello, i would like to know if it is any good to remove the link to the last post member profile on the forum index page. or is there any other way to hide member profiles from SE?

or in other words, is it not a waste of indexed pages to index member profiles?

thank you

Well it depends. For sure user profiles are not the most interesting page in a forum, so I'd at least not let bot index them unless the forum has enough content.

With phpBB3, you can decide precisely to show profile links to any group or user. By default bots do not see them, and profile pages are only available to registered users, so unless you want it, profiles are not indexed.

Additionally, you can just configure your robots.txt file to not index the members section.

Honestly, it's all personal preference being that no duplicate content will be stored/displayed in the members list.

Profile pages are not duplicate content, at least when running the zero dupe, only user message pages are a bit closer, since they will display the first few words of each post made by each user, but I don't think this can really be taken as duplicate.
It's a truly a useful presentation of each users posts IMO.

Anyway, these are as well not accessible to bots by default, you'd need to allow them to search the forum if you'd want them to see these pages on a phpBB3 forum.
