I have a question about long tail keywords and phpBB.
I know of about 1000-2000 good long tail keywords for my website right now but can't figure out a smart way to implement them into my forum to tweak my search results to get better (and more) hits.
I thought of adding tags to my threads and making the tags to long tails, but will this really help to have something like this at the bottom of my threads:
Tags: big red apple, apple candy, caramel apple on a stick
95% of my content is posted by other people, so I can't necessarily get them to implement the long tails in their posts. They post what they want to post.
So any ideas on how to add these long tails to my threads in some way to start tweaking my search results better? |

I would not bet on such a spammy technique.
The best and safest way to attract SE visitors is to have good content.
If "caramel apple on a stick" is a good search query for your site, you should write down good articles about caramel, apples and sticks, which could be posted in a category named : "caramel apple and stick".
The example is trivial and does not make much sens in itself, but you get the idea. Work on what you have, and make it interesting to read for your users.
If you build interest for users, SE will just follow.

| Thanks. That's an awesome response and you're right. It DOES seem kinda spammy. |

I excerpted my last comment below:

Sure, I think we can all agree there is some room for improvements, and surprisingly, I’ve only seen a few good suggestions, but too much importance is being placed on Search Engine performance of the system. |
I did investigate a bit and found that the MAJORITY of the duplicate links from the base V3 have been eliminated, thank you! Zero would be even better, but hey, I'm applauding progress.

I think many responding to this thread are missing a larger point: Frequently the "right" answer for search engines is also the "right" answer for people. Google may have murky obscure algorithmic means of figuring out what page should rank where, but my guiding principle is simple: If it helps people, it's good for search engines too. So I expect that an easily navigable site for people will be easily navigable for search engines. Well structured pages (e.g., meaningful headings, good related links, not a lot of "noise") are appreciated by people and I assume rewarded by search engine algorithms too.
So that brings us to phpBB. Imagine that somebody sends you a short message:
| Code: | | Have you read this thread? I think you'll find it interesting: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=552307 |
Or they send you this:
| Code: | Have you read this thread? I think you'll find it interesting:

Forget for a moment whether search engines are happier with the first or second. Which is more user friendly? |
