| I was surfing the net doing my daily SEO research when I came upon this website that guaranteed 1st placement on 40 major search engines, including Google. Not only that, they said it is FREE! I immediately said SCAM! They said that they don't use any blackhat techniques and you will never get banned. Does anyone know if there is some truth to this statement:?: |

Sounds like walking on water or $$ multiplication to me 
The offer, beside being obviously a lie, is just not possible, because there is only one first place in SERPs, so if such trick would exist, it would not even change a single thing since everybody would be using it, especially if free 
Generally speaking, no one can guarantee the first place in SERPs, the only thing that could work would be to put very high bid on adwords to see them on the Google results for your search query. But this is not SEO, this is advertisement, and it's not free. |

I really wonder what is the goal behind this, could be to see which site will be better ranked on this post in SERPs, but he posted a lot before on sitepoint so, the experiment cannot work.
I bet 5$ that davidrivera will never answer to this thread  |

What is for sure is that posting the same exact message is not exactly the best way to obtain the best answers, just like if let's say, you would send the exact same mail to all the people you know without thinking they might know each other and find out.
It's no big deal of course, but many time, such repeated post are not even followed by the author so ...
Anyway, I think you got your answer, there is no such magic in this world, nothing like : do nothing, pay nothing and get everything.
Talking about SEO, it's usually risky to believe people who are promising the moon.
This being said, and if you're willing to put some effort into understanding how to get better result in SERPS and then to work on it, you've hit the right place.
What I think is, in far most cases, the best SEO guy for your site is just you, the webmaster, not that you should be the one to necessarily do all the work, you can of course hire people, but that you must be the one who know and choose what to do for your site SEOwise.
It's just crucial because there are so many bad SEOer around, and even more because SEO principles are in the end pretty simple, the tough part is to understand that SEO strategy and marketing strategy should go together, and thus to chose the way they could go together in practice, when planning a site's growth.
These choices really depends on your site, and you should be the one to better know about the targeted public and the means and effort available to work on it.
At least you should understand this well and be able to say yes or know when people are proposing things for you.
You can of course do some experiment, like buying a test domain, put some test content, and then ask the SEOer you talk about to put it number one in SERPs to see how it goes ... But I really encourage you not to do it for an important site, because if chances they will ever put you in the first position for something else than you domain name query are very very low (especially for free), chances are really higher that you get into trouble with SE for using spammy technique they do not tell you about.
And one last thing, many people seems to devote to secrecy in the SEO field, just like if they really was some kind of magic secret behind this that could make a real difference. This is not true, and even more, here at phpBB SEO we believe the total opposite, we believe that sharing information in the SEO field is the way to go. Because in the end, only the content can really make a difference, SEO is only optimization of the content's impact in SE's, no content no SERPs.
So there is no reason to think you'll loose anything if you share information, and chances are really great that if you share knowledge about it, you will learn interesting and useful things for your site success so ... |

Doesn't sound like she is hurting in that department. Cut the wife's meals back and it should make it easier to feed the 2 kids..... |
