can't find htaccess on ftp

hi,

I've tried to install simple mod rewrite but I could not find the .htaccess file.

any help?
can I install it without editing .htaccess file?

Sample .htaccess are to be found in the contrib/ dir of the zip package.

So what's happening ? you upload it and you cannot see it ? If so, it's most likely something dealing with your ftp client, and less likely to the server itself.

Could you provide with more information ? (server, php, phpBB install dir etc ...).

Well, you can, but you need to make sure you set the proper path and slashes as explained in the install. The fact you do not see the .htaccess in your ftp does not necessarily means it's not there.

Are you, by any chances, hosted on a windows server ?

The website is on Apache/2.0.54 Server.

I can't install simple mod Sad

I get internal server error after I upload the .htaccess file.
when I remove it - everything goes back.

any ideas why this is happening?

edit:
should I put .htaccess to the forum directory or to the root?
both don't work, currently.

It could be the Options +FollowSymlinks in .htaccess :

This or change for a better hosting. Sorry, but mod_rewrite is a requirement for url rewriting.
