Install for me?

Postby BucsFan » Fri Nov 07, 2008 1:49 pm

Hello. I need this mod installed on my site. Normally, I do mods myself and have done a lot of them for vbulletin, phpbb, mybb and IPB. However, this one is intimidating and I find it hard to understand the instructions.

So I was hoping that someone here who has experience with this mod could install it for me. I don't have any money to pay someone. If you are willing to do this for me, I will give you whatever access you'll need. I have the following IM programs (so we can converse during the installation). MSN, Yahoo! and AIM. Please post here if you're willing to install this for me.

Have you given a try to our SEO premod ?

It's installed as easy as phpBB3. You'd be able to better understand the options available and the .htaccess implementation.

Once done, you'll see that this mod is not hard to install, but you for sure need to think a bit about the SEO principles involved. For example, you must wonder about redirections, are they needed in your case and etc ...

There are many things to care of that do not deal with code, but rather with your project in particular and its history (was it indexed before and etc ...).
This is why there are so many comments in the DIY, but they are all worth reading, and in then end not that complicated, trust me ;)

I really don't even know what a pre-mod is. I've read over the installation instructions a couple of times and still feel intimidated and lost. This is unusual for me as I haven't been intimidated by a mod since I first started doing this (which was years ago). Since then, I've thought of myself as an advanced mod installer for several brands of forum software.

I've installed the SEOed url mod for vbulletin and it was rather easy. The PHPBB3 SEO mod is MUCH more complicated. Also, my PHPBB3 forum is brand new. In fact, I'm the only member at present and theres only ONE thread for testing purposes... so redirects and things of that nature are not needed. I just feel that having an experienced PHPBB3 SEO user install it for me would be safer and quicker.

The premod is just phpBB3.0.2 with all our mods pre installed, and we do maintain the same update packages for it as the one maintained for phpBB3, so you do not even have to care about the seo mods while updating, only the other mods you could install, just like with phpBB3 itself.

So it's rather hard to make it easier, just try it ;)

Hmm. Sounds interesting. However, I've done a lot of editing to the style templates of my current installation... and I've almost got it the way I want it to look and function. Will I lose all of that if I install this pre-mod? How does that work exactly? Is it just an update type of installation? Or will I have to uninstall PHPBB3 and install the pre-mod? Also, I used Fantastico to install PHPBB3. Does that matter at all?

All the required code change for prosilver and subsilver2 for all mods includes in the premod are combined on this thread : http://www.phpbb-seo.com/boards/phpbb-s ... t1913.html

So the easiest, since it seems you only worked on the style (not posts) would just be to mod and use your them in the premod directly, rather than installing the premod over phpBB3, which is a bit more complicated and only required when you need to keep the db (not the theme only).

I'm not using the prosilver styles. Anyway, I still don't understand. I'll just keep an eye on this thread and maybe post the same request on other PHPBB support forums and hope that someone will do this for me.

I encourage you to hit the premod install link on a local test server, you'll see how things are done better.

For the theme, you would just have to mod (support for this on the thread mentioned above) it as any other theme and install it like any other theme in the premod.

Ok I've decided to install the mod and have started. I'm at the part where I make edits to /styles/prosilver/templates/forum_fn.js. The problem is... I am not using prosilver. I'm using a style I found elsewhere on the net. Its called "Revolution Pro"... and there is no "forum_fn.js" file to edit. Do these prosilver edits apply to other styles? Do I just skip em?

Please reply as soon as possible. I can't proceed without knowing what to do here.

Here is where the theme can be downloaded...
