Sid Removal

Postby yaashul » Thu Apr 02, 2009 3:38 am

I'm using Advance Mod Rewrite with SIR Removal in it. But since I start using Cookie Secure SID start showing up. Does Cookie Secure has something to do with SID? How to remove SID when cookie is secure? For Guest there is no SID showing up. It is only happening for Registered Members.

Cookie secure can only be used if you have an SSL certificate installed on your host. If you don't just turn it off, it's not working.

Well, but do you really want to run a secure connexion for your forum ?
It's not very convenient to be well crawled by bots.

Problem is, this is not very compatible with SEO, google will crawl https urls, but not all search engines will. Using a secured connection is not going in the same direction as opening your content to the world IMHO.

When u make cookie secure.. it doesn't run on https protocol.. one can run it on http protocol as well... I dont want to run it on HTTPS... I just want to make cookie secure if it is possible without https and without sid.

Cookie secure goes with https protocol, that's just how it is.

I was working with orkut site today and found they use secure cookie still on HTTP protocol. I have a very simple problem. I'm able to run my website on SSL (cookie secure) except one problem all registered user get SID in url and guest dont get any SID in url. Is their any way registered member should not get SID in URL when cookie is secure in http protocol.

Sorry, but I have no experience with cookie secure without https protocol.
Sid in url usually are related to cookie not being loaded by the client, so it may or may not be the same in your case.
Have you tried to deactivate url rewriting for a second to see if it makes any change ?

Though, since bots do not load cookies, I assume that they do not see sid either, have you checked your google cache ?

u are probably right... only registered member getting SID in case of Secure cookie in HTTP mode... but in case registered member getting SID and they bookmark the page they will never be able to open that page using that bookmark.
