conversion from kunena - same links style

Postby rookpl » Wed Sep 04, 2013 8:11 am

Hello,

At first thank you for great mod.

I've got one question.

I'm going to make converison from kunena to phpbb3. My old link looks like

forum/virtual-folder/postid-topicname.html

in phpbb3 is
forum/virtual-folder/topicname-t-postid.html

Is it possible, to move topic id and remove that- "t"-, so it looks like in kunena? I've got thousands links in google index, so i don't want to lose it.

sorry for my bad English, i hope someone will understand this ;)

Rather than continue with the kunena URL format, you could simply 301 redirect them to the phpBB-SEO equivalent. If you have the zero dupe enabled, your .htaccess redirect can map it to the viewtopic.php?t= format and let the zero dupe handle the title injection URL stuff. Googlebot et al will pick up 301 redirects very quickly and you will see no loss in traffic. Needless to say, you should test it locally BEFORE modifying the live site to be 100% certain it is correct.

Thanks for reply

I have zero duplicate enabled, but i suppose that i need to write some addtitional rule in htaccess to redirect "kunena links" to viewtopic.php?t= format. Its too difficult for me. Last time i try i got only server error ;)

I'm testing it on my site duplicate, that is blocked from bots in robots.txt

I did it :D

Old urls from kunena works now. I used this in htaccess
Code: Select all
RewriteRule ^(forum|[a-z0-9_-]*-f)([0-9]+)/([0-9]+)(-[a-z0-9_-]+)\.html$ viewtopic.php?t=$3 [QSA,L,NC]

but i have got another problem. My old link from kunena contains non standard characters like: ą, ę, ć, ó, ł etc. Zero duplicate works and redirects properly only if this special characters are replace with normal once.If i replace it in url by myself - redirects work like it should. But if url is non standard letter, i got 404 error.

Is it possible to rewrite some characters on the fly?

ą => a
ć => c
ź => z
etc...

for example -
this
-http://www.something.com/forum/łóżko-t112.html

rewrite to:
-http://www.something.com/forum/lozko-t112.html

This has come up a few times:

Custom replacement for title injection

For what it's worth, I searched on "rewriting special characters" or some such in the Google CSE for this site.
