Cannot set SQL rewrite to on

Postby Firebrand » Sat Oct 12, 2013 12:05 pm

When I set "Activate SQL Rewriting" to on and press save I get:

"The cache file was updated successfully.

You just activated the SQL Rewriting option, you should now synchronize all your topics URLs by going to this page if you did not already.
This will not change any of your current URLs
Please note :
You should only synchronize your topics URLs once you have fully set up your URL standard. It’s not a drama if you change your URL standard after your synchronized topic URLs, but you should do it again each time you do.
It’s not a drama either if you don’t, your topic URLs would in such case be updated upon each topic visit in case the topic URL would be empty or not matching your current standard."

message, but the radio button slides back to "no"

I CHMODed the cache to 777.

phpbb_chache.php

Code: Select all

}

$this->cache_config['forum'] = array ( );

Anybody had this issue? This is the only thing preventing me to start working with this mod. I used search but did not found any useful entries.

Is everything else about the MOD working as it should?

I did not activated it yet, but seems like other options saving without any problem.

I can't explain why the yes/no option isn't working, but if your phpbb_cache.php file has "'sql_rewrite' => true", the option is active. Moderators should see an extra field below the subject line for changing the URL.

For what it's worth, I never bother changing the standard calculated URL and removed the URL edit field from the template. By default, if the SQL rewrite is on, the canonical URL is stored in a column the topics table (IIRC, in viewtopic.php). There's a minor performance boost since if this field is present, the phpBB-SEO code can skip calculating the URL (i.e., the mod includes adding the URL column to the existing topic queries, so if this field is filled out, phpBB-SEO just uses it instead of recalculating it from scratch).

Thanks HB!

Well I'm fighting with my .htaccess at the moment, rewrite is okay but I'm getting 404s. I will do some reading after on the forums later.

I keep your advice in mind. :)
