settings to avoid 401 for the first time installation

Postby sash67 » Sun Sep 28, 2008 10:54 am

when running Sitemaps and RSS for the first time you may experience 401 page not found not for .htaccess reasons only.

first thing after reading instructions is to install the package

http://www.yourdomain.com/phpbb_folder/ ... nstall.php

if you come across the phpbb_seo.php error not found, copy the forum_folder/language/en/acp/phpbb_seo.php file in your language folder.

if this not happen, fine!

then go to your AdminControlPanel the "ACP"

select ACP_GYM_MAIN in the left menu,

then select the URL REWRITING tab

do nothing else except setting

Activate URL rewriting: YES

here is the trick

DO NOT SELECT Activate the Zero Duplicate: YES

Leave as it is: NO

If you set YES in the Zero Dup nothing will work with sitemap and rss also!
You will get the 401 HTML error.

------

Then, click on the ACP_GYM_GOOGLE_MAIN in the left menu

you will see a red •install hypertext in the upper right corner

click it!

submit the activation below, also.

-------

Then, click on the ACP_GYM_RSS_MAIN in the left menu

you will see a red •install hypertext in the upper right corner

click it!

submit the activation below, also.

------

Now generate the .htaccess from the ACP_HTACCES module and update the .htaccess file, copy and paste, will be fine.

Then you may try to start changing the settings. Change one thing at a time. Check. Change another. Check.

Hope this will help!

Cheers,

Sash

It should not happen.
Reason for 404 when the .htaccess is properly set is when you are trying to load empty feeds or sitemaps, this can occur when there are no post in the forum or when there is no public content at all and you are not using the phpBB auth in the rss feeds.

Example : http://phpbb3.phpbb-seo.net/sitemap.php

is zero duped ;)
