GYM not working with Adavnced URL Rewrite

Postby remoteinsider » Sat May 02, 2009 1:46 pm

Hi folks right i installed the GYM sitemaps and RSS module, prior to this i have installed the Advanced SEO URL Rewrite MOD and it is working fine on my forum. When viewing the sitemap at Remote insider sitemap it seems that the forum list does not contain the rewritten URL's but the default ones but when you click any of these it displays the rewritten URL's correctly. What is the reason for this? Can i fix this?

The url you mention (sitemap.php?forum=2) are not forum urls, these are sitemaps urls. So the rewriting is not delt with the same. For these, you just need to turn url rewriting on in GYM, and then to generate a new .htaccess with the SEO URL .htaccess generator to automatically add the required rewriterules for GYM's urls (sitemaps, feeds and news & map pages).

As you saw, the url to the forum are already handled properly, since GYM automatically detects our SEO url mods. So this had no consequences for the forum SEO, and you can activate GYM url rewriting now safely, as long as you as well activate GYM's zero dupe (but do it after you implemented the new .htaccess and tryed few sitemaps urls to see if everything is ok).
Once done, clear phpBB's cache to update the links displayed in the forum to the sitemaps, feeds and so on.

It's just that GYM only comes with prosilver template so far, next version will have subsilver2 ones as well, but you'll still have to tweak them to use them with any other theme you could use, as with any other mod adding template I am afraid.

Assuming that prosilver is using 1 as a theme id (it's the default case), you can just replace :
Code: Select all
$user->setup('gym_sitemaps/gym_common');

with :
Code: Select all
$user->setup('gym_sitemaps/gym_common', 1);

in map.php.
Note that this is a temporary fix, next version will come with subsilver2 templates.
