The forum you selected does not exist.

Postby unca_tim » Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:38 am

I'm not sure where this is written, so I'm not sure which forum to post in.

Does anyone know where this line "The forum you selected does not exist." is written?
I'd like to customize the message, by telling the user to resubmit their search query in the search box
at the top of the page.

Here's an example of a page that it is written on:

Thanks,
Tim

You can find that in language\en\common.php
Code: Select all
'NO_FORUM'     => 'The forum you selected does not exist.',

Have fun modding.

Darn...I edited that message, but now when i visit the home page I get this error:

Code: Select all
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3876: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3878: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3879: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3880: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)

Any way to work around this, so I can edit the 404 message?
Thanks again,
Tim

You need to use a proper editing program such as Notepad++ that will save the files in the same encoding they came in, in this case, utf-8 w/o BOM. Nitepad++ will even work with a lot of the popular FTP programs (like CrossFTP) so when you hit Edit in the FTP program, it opens notepad, then saving in Notepad++ automatically uploads.

What you need to do is download, install and run notepad++ (or edit from ftp into notepad++), either way when editing the file, in the menu up top, hit format, then chose "Convert to UTF-8 Without BOM" and then save and re-upload if needed.

Good luck.

Thanks again Typo,
That did it. Funny, I've edited many files with Core FTP and MS Notepad without problems.

Love the new notepad prgm.
Take care,

The language files are encrypted differently. Editing most the core files would be possible with the normal notepad program but since all of the files are not safe to edit with it, we don't recommend it at all, in any case. Notepad++ just rocks anyway and its totally free.

I'm glad I could help.

By the way, support-forum/diet-2145-0-asc-15.html makes me think that you where once using another url rewriting mod, and that you should try to re-implement the required rewriterules to have these working again in order to let the zero duplicate mod redirect them to the new ones.

Thanks for the input dcz,
I did indeed have a url re-write on my old forum.

I played with the no-dups feature for days and couldn't get the right combination for proper re-directs.

I'm not too concerned about getting re-indexed and losing my currently indexed pages.
Nearly all my incoming links are pointing to the old forum root page, that I 301 redirected to the new forum and google has already picked up the new forum root. I haven't seemed to lose any of those search results.

Google and Yahoo have been camped out on the forum since adding this mod, so I'm confident that the new pages will be in the serps soon.
Thanks again for your mod.
